7th Annual Georgia Accounting Food Fight Goes Virtual to Help End Hunger

Donations raised directly support Georgia's food banks in increased time of need due to COVID-19 pandemic.

ATLANTA, GA, August 07, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Georgia Society of CPAs (GSCPA) announced last month that registration is open for the seventh Annual Georgia Accounting Food Fight. The Georgia Accounting Food Fight is a two-week virtual fundraising competition among accountants across Georgia to help end hunger in the state. The competition is presented by GSCPA and the Georgia Food Bank Association (GFBA).

From August 10 - 21, Georgia accounting firms and industry accounting departments will go head-to-head, competing as teams to see who can raise the most online donations for their regional food bank. For every $1 raised, participating teams will earn four points in the competition. At the end of the two-week Food Fight, the firm with the most points overall and the most points per capita in each firm size category (by the number of employees) will be awarded. The team that raises the most money overall statewide will receive the Grand Prize Hunger Champion award. The team that raises the most money per capita statewide will be awarded the Grand Prize Food Fight Hero award.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, 1 in 7 Georgians were food insecure, including 1 in 5 kids. Social distancing, decreased work opportunities and childcare facility closures have exacerbated the struggles of families who were already wondering how they would put their next meal on the table and impacting a new group of Georgians who have never sought food assistance before. All donations made during the Georgia Accounting Food Fight go directly to supporting Georgia's food banks in their mission to alleviate hunger in our communities during this time of increased need.

All funds raised stay local and benefit the food bank that serves each participating firm or company's local community. The Georgia Society of CPAs, in partnership with the Georgia Food Bank Association, is committed to helping provide critical food support to our neighbors living with food insecurity and assisting Georgia's food banks in the fight against hunger. This year, the Food Fight's fundraising goal is to raise 200,000 dollars statewide during the two-week competition. If that goal is reached, it will mark one million dollars raised in total since the inception of the Food Fight and the equivalent of four million meals provided to Georgians in need.
