D. Missy Everson, LCSW, DCSW Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Missy Everson, LCSW, DCSW with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mrs. Everson celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Having devoted nearly five decades of her career to social services, Mrs. Everson has garnered a laudable reputation as a clinical social worker in private practice in Shreveport since 1992, and as the Director of Open Arms Adoption Services, Inc. a Louisiana Licensed 501c3 non-profit agency since 2005, started under her own name in 1998. Mrs. Everson has assisted families to adopt from 21 different countries, and has placed children in 21 states including Louisiana.

Initially entering the mental health field in 1973, Mrs. Everson worked for the Louisiana Office of Mental Health for five years, conducting mental health services to underserved populations in rural areas, and children in underserved schools in North and South Louisiana. She was the Director of the Shreveport Office of Catholic Community Services, delivering marriage and individual counseling, and adoption services to Catholics across North Louisiana. Mrs. Everson was tapped to be the first Director of the Pregnancy Crisis Center of the Volunteers of America of North Louisiana, conducting group and individual counseling services for pregnant women, and performing community outreach and grant services, eventually becoming the Pregnancy Services Program Director. After six years she transitioned to a contract role with the Caddo Parish School System, School Away from School, teaching parenting and life skills, and conducting group counseling services for six years to prepare pregnant teenagers wanting to complete their education and take on the role of motherhood. In addition, for three years Mrs. Everson was a member of the psychiatric assessment team conducting community crisis intervention services, and group therapy service rotation at CPC Brentwood Hospital.

Mrs. Everson earned distinction as a contractor for the Louisiana Office of Community Services conducting post-adoption counseling services for families and children from 1992 to 2004. She earned the Master Trainer Distinction from the Federal Office of Adolescent Pregnancy Programs, under the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and served from 2003-2006, as a Title VI trainer educating Louisiana Title X Clinic staff, public health and hospital staff, teachers and youth program directors, about adoption as a viable option, how adoption works in the 21st century, and how to present the option to pregnant teens as part of being fully informed when making decisions about an unplanned pregnancy. She was a speaker in Washington, DC for participants from across the country in 1989 and 1990 regarding research and development of Minority Adoption programs.

Education was another area in which she enjoyed sharing the professional values and knowledge of social work. Mrs. Everson taught as an adjunct professor at Grambling State University teaching in the Master of Social Work (MSW) Program from 1991-1994, and was an MSW Internship Instructor from 1989-1998.

An alumnus of Louisiana State University, Mrs. Everson attained a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology in 1972. Shortly thereafter, she returned to the Baton Rouge campus and earned a Master of Social Work in 1978. Eminently qualified in her field, she is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Louisiana, the highest state license, and earned the Diplomate in Clinical Social Work, the highest national certification, among other certifications. Mrs. Everson served the National Association of Social Workers on the state and regional levels in various leadership positions including Regional Chair from 2001-2003.

Long dedicated to the cause of civic advocacy, Mrs. Everson served on the Shreveport Mayor's Women's Commission and committees within, from 1992-1995. She has served on the Board of Directors for community organizations including the YWCA, the March of Dimes, and other organizations. She has been a speaker and trainer for many groups of professionals and families on a variety of topics, including anger management, attention deficit disorder strategies, Asperger's, crisis intervention, parenting and effective communication, adoption, treatment of traumatized children, et. al. Recognized with a Head Start Service Award in 1978, Mrs. Everson was later named as one of the Outstanding Young Women of America in 1985 and received a Dorothy Schenthal Leadership Award from the National Association of Social Workers in 2001. A celebrated Marquis listee, she has been cited in the third edition of Who's Who Among Human Services Professionals and the 25th edition of Who's Who of American Women.
