"iTeMos" is Well Being Digital (WBD101) Research Collaboration with NUS Medicine in Developing Accurate, Continuous and Non-invasive Monitoring of Core Body Temperature through the Ears

With this research collaboration in Medtech, WBD101 is establishing itself as the expert in non-invasive bio-signals sensing.

Project iTemos is a collaboration between WBD101 and NUS to develop a technology that measures accurate, continuous and non-invasive core body temperature through the ears.

SINGAPORE, August 18, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The human body functions within a tightly maintained optimal core temperature range of 36.5-37.5˚C. When there is increased heat gain during physical exertion or heat exposure, the body promotes heat dissipation either by sweating or by increasing blood flow to the skin to promote heat loss from the skin surface. However, when heat dissipation fails to match the rate of heat gain, such as during prolonged exercise of in occupational settings with prolonged heat exposure in thick protective equipment, the core body temperature will rise above the optimal range, a condition known as exertional hyperthermia. If left uncontrolled, serious heat injuries such as heat stroke may ensue.

In addition to exertional hyperthermia, elevated core temperature may also develop as a result of elevated body immune response against invading bacteria, viruses, or any other pathogens. In such instances, core body temperature can be a critical indicator of the severity of the underlying pathogenic infection. Hence constant daily monitoring of core temperature is a common strategy employed for the early detection of viral symptoms during an outbreak.

The value of core temperature as an indicator of the body's existing physiological and health condition is paramount. The ability to continuously monitor core temperature in an accurate, continuous yet non-invasive manner would allow early detection of rapid or unexpected deviations in core body temperature, thus reducing the risk of undesirable consequences.

It is based on this impetus that iTeMos was created. iTeMos, short for Intelligent Temperature Monitoring System, is a brainchild conceived from a research collaboration between Well Being Digital (WBD101) and the National University of Singapore's Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine (NUS Medicine) to develop an accurate temperature sensing technology for continuous, non-invasive monitoring of core body temperature.

"With iTeMos, we hope to create another world's first in MedTech for Singapore. WBD101 sees great opportunity for the Singapore MedTech industry to provide world class innovation, we certainly hope to explore more collaboration in other MedTech areas besides iTeMos," says Mr. Kow Ping, Co-Founder and Executive Director of WBD101.

"We are glad to announce that iTeMos which is a collaboration between NUS Medicine; ranked #1 University in the Asia Pacific, and WBD101 which is a top human bio-signals sensing technology startup in Asia, is now part of the local MedTech industry," says iTeMos CEO and co-founder Mr. Sim Yock Seng.

About Well Being Digital Limited
Founded in 2012, Well Being Digital Limited (WBD101) is a Hong Kong based company whose first patents are dated back to 2008, incubated by the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park (HKSTP) it has offices in HKSTP and Shenzhen so as to provide very timely support to B2B customers during their designs, tests and production stages. About the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine (NUS Medicine)

Established in 1905, the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine is the first institution of higher learning in Singapore and the genesis of the National University of Singapore.

The School offers one of the finest undergraduate medical programmes in the Asia Pacific region and enjoys international recognition and respect. The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2019 by subject and Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject 2019 list NUS Medicine as the leading medical school in Asia.

It admits 300 students to the MBBS degree programme annually and its principal missions are to educate and train the next generation of healthcare professionals, and foster research that will help to advance the practice of medicine.

The 18 NUS Medicine departments in the basic sciences and clinical specialties work closely with the Centre for Medical Education, the Centre for Biomedical Ethics, the Centre for Healthcare Simulation as well as the restructured public hospitals to ensure that teaching and research are aligned and relevant to Singapore's healthcare needs. The School is a founding institutional member of the National University Health System.
