Leading a long and successful career as an attorney in New York, Mr. Sorkin has been aligned with Mintz & Gold LLP since 2015. Specializing in matters of white collar criminal defense, regulatory compliance, self-regulatory investigations, litigation and litigation defense, he has successfully handled some of the most complex cases ranging from insider trading and bribery to Ponzi schemes, fraud and conspiracy. Mr. Sorkin's outstanding record has set him apart as one of the most prominent attorneys in the city. Throughout the course of his career, he has represented numerous high profile individuals such as Bernie Madoff and Jordan Belfort. He has also handled hundreds of cases on behalf of private individuals, as well as public and private corporations, hedge funds, broker-dealers and investment advisors.

Mr. Sorkin's five decade career began in 1968 as a trial attorney for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). He subsequently became an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York in the U.S. Attorney's Office. During this time, Mr. Sorkin tried approximately 20 cases to verdict, and began investigating and trying criminal violations in the securities frauds' unit, where he was notably instrumental in the establishment of legal theories that resulted in the very first criminal insider trading case.

In 1976, Mr. Sorkin served as the Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division, where he was responsible for approving search and arrest warrants and approving indictments, among other duties. He later became the Director of the New York Office of the SEC between 1984 and 1986 and the Chief Legal Officer for Nomura Securities between 1995 and 1996. Additionally, Mr. Sorkin excelled as the partner at six different firms throughout his career, including at Lowenstein Sandler LLP between 2010 and 2015 and Dickstein Shapiro LLP between 2005 and 2010.

A dedicated civic advocate, Mr. Sorkin has proudly served his community by tutoring underprivileged inner-city elementary school students for over 20 years. He also served as the chairperson of the board and president of the American Friends of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He is also a member of the Executive Committee and Board of Governors of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. To support his legal career, Mr. Sorkin has been a member of several prominent organizations, including the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the New York County Lawyers Association, the New York Council of Defense Lawyers, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the American Bar Association. He is also a member of the Association of SEC Alumni, a member of the dean's advisory board of The George Washington University Law School and an advisory board member of The Center for Law, Economics and Finance at The George Washington University Law School.

An alumnus of Tulane University, Mr. Sorkin received a Bachelor of Arts in 1968. Following this accomplishment, he attended The George Washington University Law School, where he attained a Juris Doctor in 1968. Mr. Sorkin has been admitted to practice in the state of New York, the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United States.

Mr. Sorkin received an Honorary Doctorate from the Hebrew University in 2010. Recognized by numerous legal publications for his success, he has been cited multiple times in Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business, The Best Lawyers in America and, among others, Super Lawyers. He is also an AV-Rated Attorney through Martindale-Hubbell. A celebrated Marquis listee, Mr. Sorkin has been showcased in over 25 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law and Who's Who in the East.
