Dr. Kim is esteemed as an orthopedist specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of complex ankle and foot injuries, operating primarily as the chief of the foot and ankle service at the department of orthopedic surgery at Soonchunhyang University Cheonan Hospital. He initially pursued an education at Soonchunhyang University College of Medicine, earning a Doctor of Medicine in 2006 and completing an internship at the Soonchunhyang Cheonan Medical Center until 2007. Dr. Kim conducted an additional residency in orthopedics at Soonchunhyang Cheonan Hospital from 2007 until 2011, and obtained a master's degree in 2011.
Dr. Kim remained active as a clinical fellow of the department of orthopedics at Soonchunhyang Cheonan Hospital until 2013, at which point he was appointed as the chief director of the department of orthopedics at the Armed Forces Daejon Hospital, in which he had briefly served during the 1990s. In 2016, he returned to the Soonchunghyang University Cheonan Hospital as a clinical assistant professor of orthopedic surgery and a doctoral candidate. After graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy from the Soonchunhyang University College of Medicine, Dr. Kim flourished with the aforementioned school as an assistant faculty member and the head of the foot and ankle service.
In 2019, Dr. Kim was selected as the official team physician of the Seoul E-Land Football Club. Since 2020, he has also worked as an official physician and consultant for the Boxing Commission. Constantly seeking to advance his understanding of orthopedics, Dr. Kim held the positions of a visiting scholar and a fellow in ankle and foot surgery at Thammasat University in 2019.
Dr. Kim's diverse orthopedic research has been published extensively in professional journals, and includes case studies of spinal cord injuries and fusions, novel imaging and surgical interventions for bone and soft tissue malignancies of the hips and lower extremities. Recently, he has focused on an extensive study of treatment outcomes following arthroscopic surgeries to address ankle instabilities in patients with existing abnormal tissue or postsurgical scarring. Dr. Kim has found success as a reviewer for the Wound Management and Research, and his work has appeared in publications including Arthroscopy, Orthopaedics & Traumatology: Surgery and Research, and the Journal of the Korean Fracture Society, among many others.
As one of the leading voices in intervention and clinical understanding of a wide range of orthopedic pathologies, Dr. Kim proudly excels as a member of faculty of the Korean Foot and Ankle Society, the scientific Committee of the Korean Society for Diabetic Foot, and the boards for the Korean Wound Management Society, the Korean Society of Sports Medicine and the Korean Society of Osteoporosis. He holds additional administrative posts in the Korean Fracture Society, the Korean Hip Society and the Korean Orthopedic Association. In the coming years, Dr. Kim looks forward to continuing to practice in his field, further apply his expertise in a sports medicine context, and conduct further research that will better enrich the scientific body of knowledge in orthopedics.
