From a young age, Mr. Deratzian knew that he wanted pursue law. His mother would often refer to him as argumentative, which he knew would come in handy as a lawyer. He went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts in English, theatre and political science from the State University of New York at Potsdam in 1984, as well as a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Temple University's James E. Beasley School of Law in 1987. He is admitted to practice law in the States of Pennsylvania and New Jersey, as well as before all U.S. federal courts, the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Middle Districts of Pennsylvania, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the U.S. District Court of New Jersey.
Mr. Deratzian began his career as an attorney in the Law Office of Albert Deutsch in 1987, holding the position for eight years. Soon thereafter, he has excelled as partner at Hahalis & Kounoupis, P.C., since 1996, where he specializes in labor and employment law. Concurrent to these roles, he was the director of the King of Prussia Players in 2010 and the Playcrafters of Skippack from 2003 to 2011. Likewise, he flourished as the musical director in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Alongside his primary endeavors in law and theatre, Mr. Deratzian also gives presentations and seminars at the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, the American Bar Association, the National Employment Lawyers Association, Lorman Legal and several other associations throughout the state. Civically, he has been active with the Philadelphia Lawyers for the Arts.
In light of his achievements in the field of law, Mr. Deratzian has been recognized by Super Lawyers, Best Lawyers in America and Top Attorneys in Pennsylvania. Throughout his career, he has been proudest of the work he did on the 2008 amendment of the Americans with Disabilities Act, which helped to restore the rights that previous Supreme Court cases had overturned.
