MINNEAPOLIS, MN, September 02, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present David Burnelle Kittelson, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Kittelson celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Having accrued more than 50 years of inimitable experience as a renowned educator and engineer, Dr. Kittelson earned the distinguished title of the Frank B. Rowley Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Minnesota in 2003. He has previously served the institution as the director of the power and propulsion division between 1987 and 2015, and with the Center for Diesel Research from 1996 until 2015. As an expert in his field, Dr. Kittelson found success as a consultant for numerous private and governmental organizations such as General Motors Research Laboratories, Honeywell Inc. and the U.S. Army Aberdeen Proving Ground. He has consulted on behalf of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on ultrafine particle measurements since 2014, the California Air Resources Board program since 2007 and the Health Effects Institute program since 2005. Dr. Kittelson was also an invited expert of the International Agency for Research on Cancer in 2013.

A seasoned researcher, Dr. Kittelson holds six patents in his field. His extensive knowledge includes the measurement of particulate matter, whether in the tail pipe or the environment, as well as in biofuels. During the course of his career, he has conducted extensive studies on reducing emissions associated with engine emissions, especially particle emissions from engines. He has disseminated many of his findings in over 400 papers and reports, more than 200 of which were featured in refereed publications. One of Dr. Kittelson's papers, "Engines and Nano Particles," which was published in 1998, was so successful that it has become one of the most highly cited papers in the Journal of Aerosol Science. It also led to the collaboration of research with several colleagues at the University of Minnesota to better understand how nano particles develop in engines and how to disperse them.

Dr. Kittelson pursued an education at the University of Minnesota, where he acquired a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in mechanical engineering in 1964 and 1966, respectively. Shortly thereafter, he attained a Doctor of Philosophy in chemical engineering at the University of Cambridge in England in 1972. To support his professional endeavors, Dr. Kittelson is a member of the American Association for Aerosol Research, the American Chemical Society, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the International Durable Mechanical Equipment Association. Additionally, he is an elected fellow of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), where he has been an active member of the SAE E31 aircraft, engine, gas and particulate emissions measurement committee since 2014.

Dr. Kittelson earned a U.S. Churchill Foundation Scholarship to study at the University of Cambridge. He was also bestowed with a fellowship at the Churchill College of the University of Cambridge, for the 1985 to 1986 and 2003 to 2004 academic school years, as well as the spring semester of 2009. Celebrated with several prestigious recognitions for his engineering and academic contributions, he notably won the Ralph E. Teetor Award from the SAE. Dr. Kittelson also received numerous paper awards and an Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award from the SAE engineering education board.
