6th HAVANA FILM FESTIVAL IN NEW YORK, APRIL 15 THRU 21, 2005 Tribute to Cinema Luminaries: Pastor Vega and Walter Salles A special selection of the most relevant films from Latin American Cinema Today

6th Havana Film Festival in New York will open at the Quad Cinema, April 15 with award-winning films from Havana\'s Film Festival and new independent films from and about Latin America that rarely have an opportunity to be screened outside of their country of origin.



    /24-7PressRelease.com/ - April 5, 2005 - HFFNY will present recent and classic features, documentaries, short and animated films from 12 countries subtitled in English. This year HFFNY will pay homage to Brazilian director, Walter Salles of Motorcycle Diaries and Cuban director, Pastor Vega known for Portrait of Teresa and founder of Havana's Festival of New Latin American Cinema.

The Festival will commence April 15th at 1 pm with a Tribute to Pastor Vega. The Opening Ceremony and Screening will start at 7 pm followed by A Havana Night after party in honor of Pastor Vega at Strata nightclub with distinguished guests and a performance by Cuban band Rico Tumbao. The National Arts Club will honor Walter Salles on April 19th. HFFNY comes to a close April 21st with a Final Ceremony and Screening of Caribe at 7 pm. A Latin Night Gala to honor the director Esteban Ramirez will be held at NA nightclub to wrap up the festival.

Free programs are being offered at the King Juan Carlos I of Spain Center at NYU. Animation 4 Kids, a program that brings children closer to the reality of life in Latin America through a fun and educational approach, will be take place on April 17th at 1 pm. At 3 PM Cuba's revolutionary film tradition will be discussed and award-winning documentaries will be screened. On April 18th Sandy Lieberson, producer and accomplished figure in the international film community, will moderate a panel discussion, Current Perspectives of Latin American Cinema, with invited filmmakers on new trends in Latin American cinema. A reception for industry professionals will follow.

In our efforts to reach a broader audience, the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, Queens will be screening films from HFFNY on April 15 thru 17.

The Havana Film Festival in New York is a project of the American Friends of the Ludwig Foundation of Cuba, a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization building cultural bridges between the United States and Cuba through exchange programs in the arts.
