Dr. Deemathie de Silva Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Academia

Dr. de Silva managed Trio student support service and Operation Success at Wichita State University



    BEL AIRE, KS, September 15, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Deemathie de Silva has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Inspired by her father, a Fulbright scholar and professor of physics, Dr. de Silva was encouraged to enter the field of academia, which led to her current posts as an executive, university administrator and educator. She excels as a director and grant writer for student support services and the director of Operation Success at Wichita State University as well as the president of Transcultural Marketing Communications. Prior to her present positions, Dr. de Silva worked as the co-principal investigator for the Ronald D. McNair Post Baccalaureate Achievement Program, and an anthropology instructor, biology lecturer, research associate for the College of Business and testing coordinator for the Women's Equity Program at Wichita State University.

Over the years, Dr. de Silva gained valuable expertise in education and administration through committee positions and executive roles with Kansas Agriculture and Rural Leadership Inc., Beech Top Managers, the Kansas White House Conference on Small Business, Saint Joseph Medical Center, and Florida A&M University, among others. Due to her considerable expertise, she has been requested to present and participate in numerous conferences and symposia regarding diversity training. Although her career has been filled with highlights, Dr. de Silva is especially proud of being recognized by the United States Department of Education for her work as a grant writer, which helped first generation, low-income college students to graduate.

In pursuit of her aspirations, Dr. de Silva earned a Master of Arts from Stanford University in 1964 and a Doctor of Philosophy from Columbia Pacific University in 1988. Throughout her career, she has also completed graduate coursework at Government Teachers College in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Dr. de Silva remains aware of changes in the field through her professional alignment with the Society of Intercultural Education, Training and Research.

Previously, Dr. de Silva was affiliated with several organizations, including the International Society for Intercultural Education and Research, the Mid-America Association for Educational Opportunity Program Personnel and the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science. Devoted to her community, she has also contributed to those in need on the executive board of directors for the Global Learning Center in Kansas. Backed by her extensive knowledge, Dr. de Silva has contributed to the column "Cultural and Diversity" in Wichita State University's Student Affairs Bi-Monthly Newsletter, co-authored "A Tutor Handbook for TRIO Programs" and authored a plethora of articles in professional journals. In 1990, her book "The Life Cycle Rituals of the Sinhalese," which was based on anthropological research, was published in Sri Lanka; the second edition will be released in summer of 2020.

In light of her countless accomplishments in the field, Dr. de Silva received fellowships from the American Association of University Women and the National Science Foundation, a feature in 200 Notable American Women, the Brotherhood Sisterhood Award from the National Conference on Community and Justice, an Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award and the World Peace Through Trade Award from the Kansas World Trade Center. More recently, in 2019, she was presented with the Trio Legacy Award from Wichita State University. Professional publications such as Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who of American Women, Who's Who in America and Who's Who in American Education have spotlighted her for her outstanding body of work. In the coming years, Dr. de Silva intends to experience the continued growth and success of her career.
