Hafsat U. Mashegu, MD, has been Inducted into the Marquis Who's Who Registry

    WILMINGTON, DE, September 16, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Hafsat U. Mashegu, MD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Inspired to pursue a career in Medicine by a deep passion to serve humanity at a very young age, Dr. Mashegu went on to achieve a Doctor of Medicine at the Bayero University kano in Nigeria in 2001. Continuing her medical requirements, she underwent a rotational internship at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, after which she completed her year-long National Youth Service Corps (N.Y.S.C) program where she served at the Birnin Kudu General Hospital in Jigawa state, Nigeria. She moved to the United States immediately following completion of the service year.

Upon arrival to the United States, Dr. Mashegu occupied herself with research work, volunteering at the Emory University Winship Cancer Center while preparing and undergoing her United States medical licensing Exams (U.S.M.L.E). She then went on to pursue a Pediatric residency training at the University of Oklahoma in Tulsa. Upon completion of residency training, Dr. Mashegu further pursued fellowship training in Pediatric Hematology/ Oncology. She is board certified in both Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology by the American Board of Pediatrics (A.B.P). Presently, Dr. Mashegu has honorably worked as a Physician within the Division of Oncology/Stem Cell Transplant at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

Dr. Mashegu's areas of expertise include childhood cancer and blood diseases, bone marrow and stem cell transplant, cellular immunotherapy (CAR-T therapy) and clinical research. Highly regarded for her contributions, she was a recipient of the Feldman Research grant awarded by the University of Mississippi Medical Center and a Hemostasis and Thrombosis Research Society travel award recipient among other recognitions and awards.

Dr. Mashegu attributes her success to hard work, along with a solid foundation from her medical school education. Throughout her illustrious career, she has most enjoyed experiencing the transition of health care from Nigeria to the United States. Today, Dr. Mashegu maintains affiliations with the American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology (ASPHO), American Society of Hematology (ASH), Children's Oncology Group (COG), American Society of Transplantation and Cellular Therapy (ASTCT), American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC), American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and the American Medical Association (AMA).
