Mr. Stockmar is a retired attorney and consulting economist who recently concluded his role as the chairperson of the Vail Planning and Environmental Commission in 2019. Since his election to serve as a council member for the Town of Vail during that same year, he has utilized his expertise to serve the local community, focusing much of his efforts on providing insight and advice with respect to economic matters. Mr. Stockmar is notably a fifth-generation Colorado native who was born and raised in Denver.
Demonstrating years of expertise in his chosen fields, Mr. Stockmar initially found success with local law firms in Denver and Tokyo, Japan, and was a partner at both Morrison & Foerster and Cogswell & Wehrle. He also served as the vice president of finance for Kennedy & Mitchell Inc. Mr. Stockmar eventually turned his focus to economic issues. He established JBS Systems Inc. in 1996, where he began building an impressive resume as a private consulting economist. Working with various organizations, especially overseas in Europe in matters of the Euro monetary unit, he maintained his business until 2019.
Encouraged by his father, an accomplished attorney, to pursue a similar career, Mr. Stockmar practiced law and became an adjunct law professor in corporate finance for several years. He also contributed numerous articles on corporation finance law in various legal publications and served on the editorial board of the Denver Journal of International Law and Policy. Throughout the course of his career, Mr. Stockmar has provided his expertise on several private boards of directors as well.
Among Mr. Stockmar's other civic duties, he is currently serving as a board director of the Vail Symposium, a nonprofit organization that was founded in 1971 to provide educational programs to the local community. To support his legal career, he has been a respected member of the American Bar Association and is a member and former chairperson of the securities law section of the Colorado Bar Association. Mr. Stockmar is also a member of the Colorado Municipal League, a state organization that supports municipal governance, and MENSA.
Prior to embarking upon his professional journey, Mr. Stockmar received a Bachelor of Arts at the prestigious Princeton University in 1973. He continued his studies at the University of Denver, from which he attained a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1976. Eminently qualified in his field, Mr. Stockmar has been admitted to practice law by the Colorado Bar Association and is certified through the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University.
