Parrish Law Firm, PLLC Awards Annual Academic Scholarship to Katherine Trejo of George Mason University

Parrish Law Firm, PLLC proudly announces the Annual Academic Scholarship winner

MANASSAS, VA, September 23, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Parrish Law Firm, PLLC, a Northern Virginia-based personal injury law firm, announces that Katherine Trejo, 20, of Alexandria, VA, is the most recent recipient of the Parrish Law Firm Annual Academic Scholarship. Miss Trejo will receive $1,000 to help with her studies at George Mason University, where she is a rising senior.

Firm founder, Jim Parrish, began the Bi-Annual Academic Scholarship to help two students each year whose goals are to help others and change the future. Jim Parrish serves on the board of two charitable organizations, Eli's Heart and the PY vs. PD Foundation. The Parrish Law Firm has helped many clients who have been injured because of another person's negligence.

This scholarship is designed to help students like Miss Trejo, a student in the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution. Miss Trejo's ultimate goal is to help children who have been trafficked.

Katherine Trejo is a first-generation college student, the daughter of a single mother from Bolivia. In her interview with the firm, she details how children like herself must manage the intricacies of college applications and FAFSA forms for federal financial aid, something that took her four times before she got it right.

A high school college counselor was able to help tremendously, and Miss Trejo is impatient to return that kindness to others like herself.

"I want to pay that back immediately, pay that back now," she said.

Miss Trejo wrote a moving essay that follows her own personal journey from a shy student to a leader on campus and in her community.

Her mother, Maria, has been her "mom and dad," and has taught Miss Trejo how to be a "self-advocate."

Miss Trejo was such an example of self-advocacy and motivation that she was interviewed by "60 Minutes" about how the COVID-19 shutdowns affect students like her.

She is an Academic Success Coach in the Fairfax, Virginia school system for high school students like herself.
