Cohen, PhD, with inclusion in Who's Who in the World. An accomplished listee, Dr. Cohen celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Dr. Cohen is a professor and mathematics researcher celebrating a nearly five decades of innovation in algebraic topology and configuration spaces. Inclined towards mathematics since coming of age, he recalls a childhood fascination with geometry that culminated in a formative experience reading H.S.M Coxeter's "Introduction to Geometry" in high school. After completing his doctoral degree, Dr. Cohen became an assistant professor at Northern Illinois University, where he would teach until 1979, and contributed for three years with the Institute of Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey. He began his career with the University of Kentucky in 1979, rising from an associate professor to a full professor by the time of his departure in 1988. Dr. Cohen accepted his current role with the University of Rochester in 1989, and returned to the Institute for Advanced Study for two one-year terms in 2005 and in 2010.

Dr. Cohen has been invited to speak at numerous institutions and symposia throughout the world, including presentations for the University of Chicago's Namboodiri Lectures in Geometry and Topology and the International Congress of Mathematics in Warsaw. He has been extensively published in professional journals, is a former member of the editorial board of Forum Mathematicum and the Journal of the American Mathematical Society, and continues to review for Algebraic and Geometric Topology. Dr. Cohen is also a grantee of DARPA, the National Science Foundation and the A.P Sloan Foundation, and has been recognized for his contributions to the field at the University of Tokyo's 60th Birthday Conference and with a 2008 University of Rochester Goergen Award for Distinguished Achievement and Artistry in Undergraduate Education.
