Hardwick with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. Named as the fire chief of the Glendale Fire Department in 2013, Mr. Hardwick has been devoted to public service for over four decades. First hired by the department in 2006 as its captain, he advanced to the role of the assistant fire chief two years later. In his present role, Mr. Hardwick oversees the 130 year old department, as well as approximately 50 firefighters, and supports fire suppression, investigation, training, emergency medical services and staffing. In 2018, he also accepted the role of a regional manager at the Finley Fire Equipment Company Inc., representing Pierce Fire Apparatus.

Mr. Hardwick's extensive career began in 1976 as an explorer, then fire inspector and captain of the New Burlington Fire Department in Springfield Township, Ohio. He was subsequently acquired by the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky International Airport as a firefighter in 1982. Over the next two decades he served in various roles, including as a fire safety officer, fire inspector and lieutenant. He also had the opportunity to oversee environmental issues, fire inspection and various other duties. During his tenure, Mr. Hardwick also became a certified EMT, firefighter, hazmat technician and paramedic in Kentucky and, in 1994, became a member of the Boone County Fire Investigation Team.

Among other paid and volunteer positions, Mr. Hardwick was the regional manager for Ferrara Fire Apparatus Inc. for over a decade between 2002 and 2013 overseeing the Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana areas and managing the service, training support and sales aspects of the business. Well regarded for its service as a manufacturing company based in Holden, Louisiana, Ferrara notably builds custom, heavy-duty fire trucks, as well as pumpers, tankers, aerials and other apparatus. Aside from his full-time commitments in the field, Mr. Hardwick often contributed articles in various professional journals on relative, industry-related topics. He was also published in the 1994 through 1997 editions of The Voice.

Mr. Hardwick studied fire safety technology at Northern Kentucky University from 1978 to 1980 before spending another four years at the University of Cincinnati between 1978 and 1982. Several years later, he decided to return to college, earning an Associate of Science in fire science at Columbia Southern University in 2018. Mr. Hardwick has notably completed over 7,000 hours of fire service training throughout his career. He is a certified firefighter, emergency medical technician, fire inspector and fire investigator in both Ohio and Kentucky, and a certified paramedic in Kentucky.

Among Mr. Hardwick's professional memberships, he is active with the Hamilton County Fire Chiefs and the Ohio Fire Chiefs and is a board director of the International Association of Fire Chiefs. He is also a member of Masons and Scottish Rite. Recognized numerous times for his leadership and expertise, Mr. Hardwick received an Appreciation Award from the Cincinnati Federal Bureau of Investigation Agents in 1988, a Special Accommodation from the Kenton County Airport Board for Life Saving Activity in 1991 and an Appreciation Award from the Ferrara Firefighting in 1994. He was also recognized with a Top Sales Award from Ferrara Fire Apparatus in 2006, 2007 and 2008 and received a Career Achievement Award from Cincinnati Christian University in 2019.
