[PangyoTechnoValley] The Company That Advances The Future of Autonomous Vehicles, SWM

Introduces the autonomous vehicle Armstrong and autonomous driving solution Insight-VSB

Along with its autonomous vehicle Armstrong, SWM unveiled its an autonomous driving solution Insight-VSB at this event.

LOS ANGELES, CA, November 29, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Autonomous driving technology is being applied to various industries, but the most well-known application industry to us is automobiles. The history of autonomous vehicles began in the 1980s, and even at this moment, the completeness of technology is constantly being improved by car makers. Korea is also fiercely competing to lead the autonomous driving market in numerous automobile related industries. Among them, SWM is a company that boasts high technology.

Most of the autonomous vehicles remain at the 3rd stage of conditional autonomous driving' but this company's vehicles are in the early stage of 4th stage, which is the level that the system autonomously operates while the driver is on board, showing technological differences. In particular, SWM received a temporary road driving permit from the Automobile Safety Research Institute of the Korea Transportation Safety Authority last year, and is developing its technology through tests. These technologies were introduced in detail at the 4th Pangyo Autonomous Mobility Show.

Based on the software development technology that has been accumulated over the past 16 years since its establishment, SWM has constructed sets of autonomous driving sensors such as LIDAR, RADAR, and cameras, and installed them on the finished vehicle, and is developing and delivering autonomous vehicles that mounted the software modules of autonomous driving such as positioning, recognition, prediction, planning, control, and HMI. With this, it is developing and delivering HMS (Heterogeneous Multicore System), autonomous driving data collection device (Insight-VSB), and autonomous driving data collection platform, focusing on multi-sensor data processing technology. Based on such competitiveness, the company will enter the autonomous vehicle industry to become the forefront of Industry 4.0. In 2014, with the support of the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), SWM started researching autonomous driving in full force, and successfully transformed its business from developing software for mobile phones into the field of autonomous vehicles.

The products and technologies that SWM exhibited at the 4th Pangyo Autonomous Mobility Show (PAMS 2020) are the self-driving car Armstrong and the autonomous driving solution Insight-VSB' SWM's autonomous vehicle brand Armstrong is inertial navigation (INS) measurement technology, satellite navigation (GNSS) measurement technology, satellite inertial navigation (GNSS/INS) measurement technology, LIDAR sensor values, and pre-stored measurement sensing. Using value matching technology (MSF), it is possible to measure errors within a few centimeters within the city center. Also, information such as the location, distance, shape, color, speed, and direction of obstacles can be extracted by fusion of sensors like LIDAR, Camera, and RADAR, and a roof sensor set that combines multiple sensors can recognize objects up to a radius of 300m.

In addition, AI-based prediction technology (RNN, MLP) can be used to predict changes over time to predict simultaneous and multiple interactions that occur between driving, and the entire route and vehicle status information are continuously collected to generate safe and crash-free driving trajectory and speed information, and by reflecting unexpected situations and surrounding environments during driving, optimized route can be acquired in real time during driving. SWM's autonomous vehicle provides a web-based interface so that various information such as vehicle status can be checked regardless of the user's location, and security for web-based communication can also be secured by applying secure coding and data encryption solutions.

Along with its autonomous vehicle Armstrong, SWM unveiled its an autonomous driving solution Insight-VSB at this event. Insight -VSB is a single system that can collect various sensor data necessary for autonomous driving. This solution stores large amounts of data generated by cameras and LiDAR without delay, and is a high-speed storage device that is resistant to shock and vibration generated by the vehicle, supports various interfaces required for sensor connection, and all data is synchronized with GPS information and system time and saved.

PAMS 2020, held for three days from Oct. 15 to 17 was hosted by Gyeonggi Province and co-organized by Kintex and the Advanced Institute of Convergence Technology. This year's theme was Connect PANGYO. Pangyo Technovalley, where the event was held, has recently emerged as the autonomous driving smart industrial complex, and it is receiving the spotlight as the advanced base for promising autonomous technology startups in Korea to implement their ideas in real life.
