Fred Kiger Inducted into Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Higher Education

Mr. Kiger's dynamic personality and storytelling ability have contributed to his success as a lecturer. He is an American Civil War expert who serves as an instructor for the General Alumni Association at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.

Kiger, Writer, Researcher and American Civil War Expert at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of higher education.

With 31 years of professional experience and 25 years of experience in his current role, Mr. Kiger is an American Civil War expert who serves as an instructor for the General Alumni Association at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. His expertise is in writing about, teaching and researching that period of American history. He is particularly interested in battlefield strategies and personalities that dominated the Civil War and because of that expertise leads guided battlefield tours. Mr. Kiger's dynamic personality and storytelling ability have contributed to his success as a lecturer. He became involved in his profession because of his keen interest in history and appreciation of personal anecdotes. In his other occupational world he works as a statistician, writer and researcher for ESPN and others.

Mr. Kiger received his Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 1977. He also received his Bachelor of Arts in History from the same institution in 1974. Always active in his field and communicative with colleagues, Mr. Kiger is a member of several professional organizations which include the North Caroliniana Society. In his teaching role he has won the Governor's Award for Excellence in Teaching and has been selected a member of Who's Who Among America's Teachers. In his broadcasting role as an assistant producer he has won three Sports Emmys for his work on ESPN's SportsCentury series. Mr. Kiger plans to continue his role in broadcast journalism and is looking forward to being active in the nation's observance of the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War.
