Marquis Who's Who Honors Susan O. Schall, PhD, with Inclusion in Who's Who in the World

Dr. Schall has distinguished herself as an advocate for women in various technical fields.

Schall, PhD, with inclusion in Who's Who in the World. An accomplished listee, Dr. Schall celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Dr. Schall is an engineer, founder, consultant and advocate for women in manufacturing and engineering professions. Possessed of a natural interest in mathematics and science, she developed an interest in building with the guidance of her grandfather, a carpenter. Initially hoping to pursue a career in patent law, she instead became passionate about engineering, earning Bachelor of Science degrees in mathematics from the State University of New York at Fredonia and industrial engineering from Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Schall returned to Pennsylvania State University for postgraduate study, completing both a Master of Science and a Doctor of Philosophy in industrial engineering.

After serving as a technical superintendent and control systems engineer for DuPont Engineering Polymers, Dr. Schall established her first independent consulting venture, Susan O. Schall Process Improvement Consulting, in 1999. She recalls her first contract, which involved merging data tools for a client, as a particular highlight and a professional breakthrough. Dr. Schall maintained involvement as the methodology director of RR Donnelley & Sons Company Inc. from 2002 until 2004, whereupon she returned to consulting as the Founder and Lead Consultant of SOS Consulting, LLC, through which she continues to practice.

In addition to her work with SOS Consulting, Dr. Schall is an authorized partner of John Wiley & Sons Inc., Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team and Everything Disc. Likewise, she is a former member of the Industrial and Professional Advisory Council in the Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at Pennsylvania State University, as well as consultant of the ABET Foundation, where she has held leadership positions on the engineering accreditation commission and board of directors. Dr. Schall has contributed to numerous articles in industry journals and professional publications, including "Variability Reduction: A Statistical Engineering Approach to Engage Operations Teams in Process Improvement," and "Is Your Organization Healthy Enough for Six Sigma?"

In recognition of her career commitment to leadership and advancing the manufacturing industry as a whole, Dr. Schall has been recognized with Engineering Excellence Bronze and Silver Awards from DuPont Engineering, the Medallion Award and Fellow of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers. She has been acknowledged with several alumni awards from Pennsylvania State University. As part of her dedication to professional excellence, Dr. Schall holds continuing education credentials including ASQ certified engineer (CQE), certified manager of quality/organizational excellence and Six Sigma Master Black Belt.

Dr. Schall has held several leadership roles in the American Society for Quality, and currently serves as the chairperson of the Freund-Marquarat medal committee and treasurer for the Northern Shenandoah Valley Section. Furthermore, she is a member of the American Society of Engineering Education and senior member of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers. Outside her consulting practice, Dr. Schall is a certified lay servant and past lay leader at the Front Royal United Methodist Church, and has worked with Warren County Public Schools on Project Lead the Way.
