Laura Maioglio Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Business

Ms. Maioglio has spent more than five decades running and enhancing Barbetta Restaurant in Manhattan

NEW YORK, NY, December 22, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Laura Maioglio has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

After receiving a Bachelor of Arts in art history, magna cum laude, from Bryn Mawr College, Ms. Maioglio took over her family business, a restaurant titled Barbetta, located in New York City. Her family established the acclaimed restaurant, known as being Manhattan's oldest Italian restaurant, after immigrating to the United States from Italy, and since then, have been passing the restaurant down the family line for generations. Ms. Maioglio was determined to maintain the restaurant even after her husband, Dr. Günter Blobel, won the 1999 Nobel Peace Prize for his innovations in physiology. Ms. Maioglio and a lawyer prevented the restaurant from being sold so she could remain as owner, thus implementing her own new ideas. She initially took over Barbetta in 1962.

Under Ms. Maioglio's direction, the restaurant has received many accolades and recognition over the years. They were inducted into the Distinguished Restaurants of North America Hall of Fame, received the DiRoNA Award between 1997 and 2009, and received four stars from the Mobil Guide and one star from The Fodor Guide. In 1997, Esquire Magazine named Barbetta one of the Top Six Italian Restaurants in the United States. They were also awarded First Prize from the Italian Government and recognized for the Most Outstanding Italian Wine list in 1977.

In 2004, Ms. Maioglio and Barbetta won the Award of Ultimate Distinction from Wine Enthusiast. In addition, they received the Award of Unique Distinction between 2005 and 2010, the Best of Excellence Award from Wine Spectator from 1997 to 2010, the New York Regional Award from Santa Magazine from 2005 to 2009, and the Bevi Acqui International Prize from the Enoteca of Acqui Terme in 2007.

Ms. Maioglio attributes her professional success to her dedication to the family business, and she is immensely proud of serving and enhancing the restaurant over the many decades since its fruition. Looking forward, she intends to experience the continued growth and success of Barbetta.
