An accomplished listee, Ms. Mikhail celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Drawing inspiration from her previous vocation in journalism, Ms. Mikhail has garnered a laudable reputation as a special lecturer at Oakland University since 2012. Her tenure in education also included more than a decade teaching Arabic at Wayne State University, Michigan State University and Dearborn Public Schools.

While coming of age, Ms. Mikhail sought to pursue a career in journalism so that she could draw attention to issues in human rights. Facing censorship and dictatorship, Ms. Mikhail subsequently immigrated to the U.S. where she began applying her talents in the classroom. A talented and award-winning writer and poet who has drawn heavily from her upbringing in war-torn Iraq, Ms. Mikhail has published several books, including "The Beekeeper: Rescuing the Stolen Women of Iraq" which explores Daesh kidnappings and killings of Yazidi women in Iraq. Other books to her credit include "In Her Feminine Sign," "The Iraqi Nights," "Diary of A Wave Outside the Sea" and "The War Works Hard." They are all published by New Directions, a prominent New York based publisher.

Ms. Mikhail received a Bachelor of Arts in English literature at the University of Baghdad in 1987. She later earned a Master of Arts in Near Eastern Studies at Wayne State University in 2001. Aligned with literature and free speech related organizations in support of her career, Ms. Mikhail is presently a member of the Academy of American Poets, PEN for American Writers and is also a founding member of the Mesopotamian Forum for Art and Culture in Michigan. Ms. Mikhail secured a Kresge Artist Fellowship in Detroit in 2013, a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2018 and a Knights Foundation grant in Detroit in 2017.

Recognized for her writing, she received a Human Rights Watch Award for Freedom of Writing from the United Nations in 2001, a Translation Award from PEN in 2004 and an Arab American Book Award from the AAN Museum in 2010 for her 2009 memoir in verse, "Diary of a Wave Outside the Sea." She was also long-listed for a National Book Award in 2018 and a finalist for the PEN/John Kenneth Galbraith Award in 2019. For her poetry contributions, Ms. Mikhail was shortlisted for the international Griffin Poetry Prize in 2006 and later received a Poetry Book Society Wild Card in 2019, as well as a listing among the Best Poetry Books of 2019 at the New York Public Library, The Guardian, and The New York Times.
