Dr. Dickstein enjoyed 30 years in the pharmaceutical field before retiring in 1998 as the vice president of clinical research for Transcend Therapeutics, Inc. Headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the company specialized in the treatment of various diseases caused by oxidative stress, which is an imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants in the human body, and resultant tissue damage. Today, Dr. Dickstein remains a pharmaceutical consultant in his hometown of Cohasset, Massachusetts, since 1999.

Prior to his most recent position, Dr. Dickstein spent one year as vice president for MetaWorks, Inc., in Boston, a provider of data analysis for health care products and services. He also gained recognition with the pharmaceutical company Warner-Lambert in the Parke-Davis division in Morris Plains, New Jersey, in various capacities, including as vice president, and with E.R. Squibb in New Brunswick, New Jersey, as director of regulatory medical affairs. Early in his career, Dr. Dickstein held appointments with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as a group leader between 1983 and 1985, Johnson & Johnson as the director of clinical research between 1973 and 1983, and in various roles for Abbott Laboratories and Baxter Laboratories in Illinois.

As a seasoned scientist, Dr. Dickstein spent significant time conducting research. As a result, he successfully secured a patent for a controlled formulation for the administration of Benadryl, which is an antihistamine that treats pain and itching of the skin. Additionally, Dr. Dickstein has greatly enjoyed contributing civically to his community over the years. More recently, he was a member of the Cohasset Board of Health between 2015 and 2018.

Dr. Dickstein prepared for his career in medicine by achieving a Bachelor of Arts in biology at American International College in 1957 and a Doctor of Medicine at Tufts University in 1961. Additional medical training included an internship and residency at the Bronx Municipal Hospital Center in New York, a surgical residency at Springfield Hospital in Springfield, Massachusetts, and a second surgical residency at Boston University Medical Center, where he rose to chief resident. Dr. Dickstein then spent two additional years as a surgeon for the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy between 1966 and 1968. He is board certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners.

Dr. Dickstein received a summer scholarship from the New England Arthritis and Rheumatism Foundation in 1959. A celebrated Marquis listee, he has been showcased in close to 20 editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and Who's Who in the World.
