WYCKOFF, NJ, February 03, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Winn was created in 1968 by the Cat Fanciers' Association to fund medical studies which improve the health and well-being of all cats. Operating as such, the Foundation has funded over $7.6 million in grants for research that continues to change cats' lives for the better. This important work helps all cats. To embody the global vision for cat health and welfare, Winn Feline Foundation changed to EveryCat Health Foundation.

Nearly 400 million domestic cats bring joy to their companions across the world. Only in the past 50 years have we begun to really understand what cats need to live longer, healthier lives. Still, there remains so much more to learn.

Studies funded by EveryCat Health Foundation have an impact on cats, cat lovers, cat fanciers, veterinarians, and researchers every day. Our grants support broad research topics, from disease identification, diagnostics and treatment to nutrition and behavior, and takes into consideration and benefits all cats.

"Advancing feline health through research and education is the mission we live every day, and we're indebted to CFA's long-term counselor, Robert H. Winn, for his wisdom and vision in creating our foundation," says Dr. Drew Weigner, President. "After more than 50 years, our dedication and determination has grown to encompass every cat, every day. It's fitting to take this opportunity to honor his memory by becoming EveryCat, not just in name, but also in scope. Our new name allows us to connect to more researchers and donors than ever before to increase our impact on the health and well-being of cats and their owners all over the world."

EveryCat is proud to share feline health research and best practices with all who study, love and provide medical care for cats. Our education efforts — from monthly webinars, to national symposiums and international veterinary conferences, to medical journal articles — help others gain an understanding of research results, implications and advancements. Education also helps to raise awareness and encourage financial support for EveryCat-funded research.

Much of what we know about feline health has changed, and EveryCat has been at the forefront for decades, uncovering new information, stimulating interest in the veterinary community and getting the word out to every cat parent.

"I dare say there isn't a cat on the planet who hasn't been touched by knowledge gained through Winn's funding," says certified animal behaviorist Steve Dale, a longtime Board member. "Just in the time I've been on the Board we've seen a huge breakthrough for previously fatal feline infectious peritonitis, the potential of using stem cells to support cats with stomatitis, and a far better understanding of the most common heart disease in cats (feline hypertrophic cardiomyopathy). I am convinced, if you love cats you love the EveryCat Health Foundation."

EveryCat Health Foundation, a non-profit organization established in 1968 (as Winn Feline Foundation) supports studies to improve cat health. Its work worldwide has funded over $7.6 million in cat health research at more than 30 partner institutions. Efforts are made possible through the generosity of dedicated donors and collaborations. Research supported by EveryCat Health Foundation helps veterinarians by providing educational resources that improve treatment of common feline health problems and prevent many diseases. Grants are awarded at least twice yearly with the help of the foundation's expert review panel.
