Doris Duncan, PhD, Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    FOSTER CITY, CA, February 11, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Doris Duncan, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Duncan celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Having accrued over five decades of experience in her field, Dr. Duncan has garnered a laudable reputation as a professor emerita of computer information systems at California State University, East Bay (CSUEB). In the course of her duties as a full professor in the department of accounting and finance, she also had the opportunity to serve as the director of the MBA programs in the college of business and economics. Her initial appointment at CSUEB was as a lecturer of accounting and information systems in 1976. However, she spent the majority of her tenure as a professor of computer information systems between 1985 and 2015. On campus, Dr. Duncan was notably active on multiple committees and boards, such as the academic senate, retention, promotion and tenure committee at the department and college levels, chair of the lecturer review committee and area coordinator. Additionally, while on leave of absence from CSUEB she taught as an associate professor and director of the information systems program at Golden Gate University in San Francisco between 1982 and 1983 and as a visiting professor of information systems in the department of management science at the University of Washington in Seattle for a year from 1997 to 1998.

Prior to her work in higher education, Dr. Duncan earned distinction in the technology field working as a manager for AT&T, a senior staff consultant in the computer technology division at Quantum Science Corporation and as a program director at Input Inc. Apart from her full-time responsibilities, she enjoyed several other part-time positions, such as a board directorship at Computer Repair Services. Dr. Duncan was also a member of the advisory boards of Ximnet Inc. and Incipient Venture Capital Fund.

Highly qualified in her field, Dr. Duncan excelled at strategic electronic commerce development, internet web site design and development, technology assessment, and software and hardware evaluation. She was also instrumental in the development of computer literacy and user education, curriculum development and, among other areas, social network media. A talented speaker and writer, Dr. Duncan has presented dozens of her published papers before professional organizations. As part of her writing commitments, she authored a book, "Computers and Remote Computing Services" in 1983, as well as over 100 scholarly articles, conference proceedings and other papers. Additionally, Dr. Duncan provided her expertise as a board member and reviewer, and held various editorial positions for several prominent professional journals during her career.

As a contributor to her community, Dr. Duncan is presently active with numerous local organizations in Foster City, California, including as a board director of the Hillbarn Theatre and as a member of the Community Emergency Response Team. She chairs the Foster City Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee and previously served as the Vice Chair of the Foster City Innovation and Technology Citizens Advisory Committee. She also holds various volunteer positions with the San Francisco Ballet's Ballet Resource and Volunteer Organization (BRAVO), the San Francisco Opera, Broadway by the Bay, the Computer History Museum both as a docent and as a member of the software industry special interest group, and the Ronald McDonald House at Stanford. With respect to academia, Dr. Duncan is a current member of the advisory board for Golden Gate University's Ageno School of Business and for the College of Business and Economics at California State University, East Bay. She previously served on Golden Gate University's advisory board for information systems and their advisory board for undergraduate programs.

Over the past 50 years, Dr. Duncan has been involved with several professional organizations. She is the past president of the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP), San Francisco Chapter where she has also been a vice president, secretary, chair of education, chair of the awards, and chair of the bylaws committees. She has served on the board of directors at the AITP national level and has been active in the Special Interest Group for Education (EDSIG) as a board member and a member of several committees including the national curriculum steering committee and national reception committee. She has also been active in the AITP Special Interest Group for Certified Data Processors. Prior to 1997 the AITP was called the Data Processing Management Association (DPMA).

Attaining an abundance of accolades, Dr. Duncan was recognized by the AITP/DPMA organization on multiple occasions: a Bronze Award in 1984, Silver Award in 1986, Gold Award in 1988, Emerald Award in 1992, Diamond Award in 1994, Double Diamond Award in 1998, Triple Diamond Award in 2001, and Lifetime Emerald Individual Performance Award in 2017. In 2016 the EDSIG organization inducted Dr. Duncan as a Fellow. Dr. Duncan has also received several distinguished research awards for her academic papers presented at EDSIG conferences. She was a finalist for the EDSIG Educator of the Year Award in 1999. In 1999 Allied Academies presented Dr. Duncan with a Distinguished Research Award. In 1997 the International Association of Computer Information Systems named Dr. Duncan their Educator of the Year.

Dr. Duncan was also named a lifetime fellow of the American Biographical Association, was a member of their research board of advisors and their Woman of the Year. Other memberships to her credit include the Association of Information Systems, Association of Computing Machinery (ACM), Decision Science Institute, Beta Gamma Sigma, and Fulbright Association. She has also secured several grants from such organizations as the AITP, California State University System and USA government.

In 2009 Dr. Duncan was selected to be a Fulbright Scholar/Specialist to Uganda where she worked with Kyambogo University and the Logel Project in Kampala, Uganda. In 2012 Dr. Duncan served as a Fulbright Scholar/Specialist to Tunisia where she worked with the Higher Institute of Engineering and Technology (ESPRIT) in Ariana/Tunis, Tunisia.

Dr. Duncan obtained a Bachelor of Arts in business administration with an emphasis in marketing in 1967 and a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in management science in 1968 at the University of Washington in Seattle. She also earned a Doctor of Philosophy in business administration with a specialty in in information systems at Golden Gate University in 1978. Eminently qualified in her field, Dr. Duncan holds certification in data processing and as a data educator, systems professional and computer professional. Dr. Duncan has been listed in Marquis Who's Who publications, including Who's Who in America, since 2000.
