Miami, Florida Resort Goes Green on the Greens

Doral Golf Resort & Spa, A Marriott Resort Named One of Six Marriott Golf Courses to Meet 2008 Audubon Certification

/24-7PressRelease/ - MIAMI, FL, April 26, 2008 - Marriott has recently announced a mandate program for all managed golf properties throughout North America and the Caribbean to become certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuaries in 2008. Among the Marriott golf courses to already have met the requirements, Doral Golf Resort & Spa is among only six locations to have already become certified before the 2008 initiative has taken place.

Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuaries, which enable golf facilities to protect the environment by enhancing natural areas and wildlife habitats, are part of a system wide commitment by Marriott International, Inc. to promote environmental stewardship. Marriott's Audubon Certification mandate program includes 34 golf courses at 25 locations throughout the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean, including famed golf destinations such as Doral Golf Resort & Spa, in Miami, Florida. In fact, the Miami, Florida resort, host of the 2008 WGC-CA Championship that took place in March, will become the first-ever Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary in North America to host a World Golf Championships event.

"We are so proud of the fact that our greens have been recognized by the Audubon Cooperative," states Cari Farinas, Marketing Coordinator at Doral, Florida Golf & Spa Resort. "Our five world-class courses are not only visually stunning, but eco-friendly and respectful to their surroundings, and that is extremely important to us in a time when guests and golfers alike are becoming increasingly aware of environmental issues as a whole."

In order to achieve Audubon Certification, a golf facility is required to demonstrate that it is maintaining the highest degree of environmental quality in several areas including Environmental Planning, Wildlife & Habitat Management, Outreach & Education, Chemical Use Reduction & Safety, Water Conservation, and Water Quality Management. Marriott has even created an informative YouTube video to enlighten golf aficionados and guests as to what the organization as a whole is doing in terms of going green on the courses.

Marriott Golf manages 62 golf courses at 46 locations in 13 countries, offering more than 1,000 holes of Championship golf. Marriott has been managing golf operations since 1970 and is one of the world's premier golf operators, providing golf management and consulting services to a variety of operational environments including resort, private club, daily fee, golf school and franchises.
