In 1989, Mr. Saldaña immigrated to the United States in order to help his brother open a restaurant in Berkeley, California. However his strong roots and values have kept him concentrated on using family recipes and keeping food simple but enjoyable. Mama Luisa, Don Pedro and Mama Elena, three predominant names in the menu and in Chef Lito's life. His parents, Pedro and Luisa, have been the inspiration for his career and his greatest culinary instructors since day one.
The food recipes are 100% gluten-free and organic without the use of any lard, artificial or canned products. The restaurant serves five different tacos every day (made with handmade tortillas and organic meats and produce). 5 Tacos and Beers offers 30-40 craft beer options from local craft breweries, with their very own keg room built in the kitchen for guaranteed icy cold brews.
Throughout the course of his career, Mr. Saldaña has been invited to represent Mexican cuisine at several industry events, through which he has featured on a local television show, "Check Please Bay Area." For his efforts, he has received numerous awards, including recognition as a Mexican "powerhouse" of modern cuisine with traditional Jalisco roots. Additionally, Mr. Saldaña's restaurant has been top-rated on Google and TripAdvisor.
Mr. Saldaña has attributed his professional success to his desire to create unique dishes at his restaurant. In addition to the food, his team has created an authentic atmosphere throughout the entire space. In his community, he supports local students through fundraisers and events.
