Dr. Lee established and began serving as the chief executive officer and chief technology officer at Kaier Company, Ltd. in 2019. A deep learning technology start-up that boasts extensive expertise in engineering management, with a particular emphasis on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and audiovisual signal processing. Throughout the course of his career, Dr. Lee has become highly effective and experienced in machine vision, speech recognition technology and solution development, as well as commercial deep learning solutions and MPEG video coding solutions, among other skills.
Prior to establishing Kaier Company, Dr. Lee served as a project manager, product sub-manager and principal engineer at the DMC Research Center of Samsung Electronics Company Ltd. from 2004 until 2018. During his nearly 15 years with the organization, some of his key achievements included developing a state-of-the-art face detection and eye tracking, MPEG international video coding standard algorithm as well as software and hardware solution. He also oversaw operations for its UHD task force.
Dr. Lee also worked as a product manager, project manager and speech recognition team leader at the Technology Research and Development Center of Voiceware Company between 2000 and 2004. Among his responsibilities, Dr. Lee developed speech recognition, speaker verification and various speech codec technology systems and directed operations for the speech technology team. A small Korean start-up at the time, his team led Voiceware to IPO in just two and a half years after launching, which was the fastest registration record in the KOSDAQ market among Korean companies.
Additionally, Dr. Lee contributed for two years as an assistant engineer at the Multimedia Research and Development Center of SK Hynix Inc. from 1997 to 1999. He contributed to development of Korea first HDTV broadcasting system.
As a seasoned researcher, Dr. Lee has secured more than 30 international patents on signal processing in machine vision and video coding. Looking toward the future, he is eager about emerging trends in deep learning technology, which will eventually replace all conventional technologies currently used today. In recognition of his achievements, Samsung honored Dr. Lee with an Award of Annual Best Project in 2006 and an Award of Honor in 2015.
Born in Busan, Dr. Lee earned a Bachelor and a Master of Science in electronics engineering at Pusan National University. He also received a Doctor of Philosophy in computer science at Yonsei University in South Korea. Dr. Lee is fluent in Korean and English.
