An accomplished listee, Dr. Tratras Contis celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Dr. Tratras Contis is a professor of chemistry at Eastern Michigan University (EMU) in Ypsilanti. A faculty member since 1971, she has taught various courses, including Fundamentals of Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry and Nuclear Chemistry Technique. In 2006, she also began serving as the director of the Creative Scientific Inquiry Experience program, a STEM-related program that links students with faculty and community projects. During the course of her tenure, Dr. Tratras Contis also served as the associate vice president of academic affairs, an associate dean of the college of arts and sciences and as the director of the women's studies program. Additionally, she enjoyed five years as a Fulbright specialist scholar between 2014 and 2019.

As a seasoned scientist, Dr. Tratras Contis has studied trace elements in food, short-lived fission products of 235U, the use of electronic technology in chemical education, as well as issues for women in science. She has contributed articles to multiple scientific journals due to her years of research, including in the Journal of Radioanalytical and Nuclear Chemistry and the International Journal of Science, Mathematics and Technology Learning. In 2017, she released the third edition of her successful book, "Investigating Chemistry: Up 'N Atom." Dr. Tratras Contis has also contributed chapters to several other books, including "Chemistry without Borders: Careers, Research, and Entrepreneurship" in 2016. The chapter was notably titled "Water: Global Issues, Local Solutions."

Dr. Tratras Contis attended Youngstown State University, where she worked as a teaching assistant before attaining a Bachelor of Science in 1968. Pursuing additional studies, she became a graduate assistant at the University of Pittsburgh, spent the summer of 1969 as a research assistant at Koppers Company Inc., and ultimately received a Master of Science in 1971. Years later, Dr. Tratras Contis earned a Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Michigan in 2000.

Aligned with several prominent organizations in relation to her field, Dr. Tratras Contis is active with the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences and the National Science Teachers Association. She is also an elected fellow of the American Chemical Society, where she has served on the international activities committee, through which she had the opportunity to travel internationally to places like Brazil, Mexico, Peru, Malaysia, Pakistan, Singapore and Thailand, and participate in federally funded soft skills trainings and workshops. Recognized for her accomplishments, Dr. Tratras Contis received a Distinguished Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence from EMU in 1979. She was later acknowledged as a Distinguished Faculty from the Michigan Association of Governing Boards in 1993 and, among other recognitions, was honored with a Michigan Philanthropy Award as a Distinguished Volunteer for Women in Philanthropy by EMU in 2012.
