Mr. Rich is a hydrogeologist, environmental consultant and the founder, owner and president of CA RICH Consultants Inc., a geological and environmental consulting firm that has operated since 1982. After immigrating to the United States in the 1950s, he began studying at Syracuse University, where he initially majored in journalism. He enrolled in a geology course taught by Professor Herman Muskatt in order to fulfill a science requirement, and changed his major shortly thereafter. Mr. Rich graduated with a Bachelor of Science in geology in 1973, and continued his studies at the City University of New York, where he was bestowed with a Master of Arts in geology in 1975.
While completing his graduate studies, Mr. Rich served as a hydrologic technician for the Water Resources Division of the United States Geological Survey in Mineola, New York. After briefly working for H2M Corporation as a hydrogeologist, he joined Geraghty & Miller Inc., for which he worked as a project manager and senior hydrogeologist from 1976 until 1979. Prior to opening CA RICH Consultants, Mr. Rich spent three years as the Principal-In-Charge of Dames & Moore, an international engineering firm based in White Plains, New York, and Cranford, New Jersey. In addition to his consulting practice, Mr. Rich holds certifications in dispute resolution, sustainable building and numerous waste management and environmental safety concerns. Likewise, he has spent more than three decades as an invited speaker in the field and is admitted as an expert witness in both state and federal courts.
Among Mr. Rich's most notable accomplishments were his expert testimony for the United States Department of Justice in a yearlong federal case against Exxon-Mobil, and his engineering and site evaluation consulting work for a potable water well project serving three villages in southern Malawi as the professional mentor of the University of Delaware chapter of Engineers Without Borders. Since 2001, he has served as an adjunct faculty member and director of the Long Island Real Estate Institute at the SUNY Stony Brook College of Business. Moreover, he is chairperson of the White Paper Committee of the Real Estate Institute. Extensively published, he has contributed to scientific journals, editorials and opinion pieces throughout his career, and is active in dozens of academic and industry groups, including a term as the president of the American Institute of Professional Geologists (Northeast Section) and vice president of the New York State Council of Professional Geologists. In his leisure time, Mr. Rich enjoys travel, boating, and studying architecture, and is an accomplished oil painter.
