Violet Baxter Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    NEW YORK, NY, April 07, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Violet Baxter with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Baxter celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Ms. Baxter is best known for her paintings and drawings of Union Square, NYC and Long Island City, NY. She had maintained a studio in these places for more than 20 years at each location. Her work has evolved from abstraction to realism, often combining aspects of both approaches to figurative, cityscapes and landscapes. Her work in graphite, pastel, watercolor and oil, spans more than six decades.

Baxter, born in the Bronx, is a native New Yorker, and a graduate of the High School of Industrial Art. She graduated (with honors) from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art (Art School) in New York City in 1960. Baxter continued studies at Columbia University, Pratt Graphic Art Center and the New York Studio School.

Ms. Baxter also has a background in calligraphy and taught the subject for two semesters for a special program through Pratt Institute, NYC. Her clients included Rambusch Co; The Port Authority of New York; Museum of Modern Art, NYC; and WQXR; From 1954 to 1971 she worked in the art departments of several major publishers and advertising agencies and worked in the Promotion and Corporate Art departments at The New York Times from 1963 to 1971. Other professional contributions have included serving as a guest lecturer at Parsons School of Design; Demos at The National Arts Club, NYC; SE Missouri State University and numerous gallery talks.

Among Baxter's awards are the Gold Medal of Honor in 1994, the Jane Peterson Memorial Award in 1996 and the Bronze Medal of Honor in 1995 and 1997 from Audubon Artists. She received grants from Artist's Space, The Vermont Studio Center, and the Richard Florsheim Art Fund.

Ms. Baxter served as a Director and then Vice President on the board of New York Artists Equity Association. She was elected a Director of the Fine Arts Federation of New York, and was an honorary member of the National Arts Club New York. She is presently a member of the Federation of Modern Painters and Sculptors, and a member of Long Island City Artists until 2021.
