CentiMark Celebrates 53rd Anniversary

On April 19, 1968, Edward B. Dunlap started D&B Laboratories in 1967 as a part-time industrial cleaning products business in the basement of his home. Dunlap then started Northern Chemical Corporation in 1968 with one associate and $1,000 seed money from D&B Laboratories. The Pittsburgh, PA based company's name changed to Northern Industrial Maintenance and grew through geographical expansion, diversification of roofing and flooring services and product lines and an aggressive National Accounts Program.

In 1987, the corporate name changed again to CentiMark Corporation. "Centi" refers to the 1987 goal of achieving $100 million in sales (achieved in 1994). "Mark" recognizes the company's unique contributions to the roofing industry – the first National Account program in the commercial roofing and flooring industry, Single Source Warranties on workmanship and materials, expansive customer service program, safety training and equipment and geographical expansion through organic growth not acquisition throughout North America.

Each decade brought a new milestone: sales of $1 million in 1974; $10 million in 1984; $100 million in 1994, $300 million in 2004, $400 million in 2009, $500 million in 2014, $700 million in 2018 and $800 million in 2020.

On January 1, 2003, Timothy M. Dunlap was appointed President and Chief Operating Officer of CentiMark; on February 1, 2021, he was appointed President & Chief Executive Officer. Edward B. Dunlap, Founder of CentiMark, continues to serve as Chairman.
