Frank C. Ruf Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Mr. Ruf has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the field of computer engineering

BINGHAMTON, NY, April 20, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Frank C. Ruf with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Ruf celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

For nearly 40 years, Mr. Ruf devoted his professional journey to the computer engineering industry. Aligned with several great organizations throughout the tristate area, he spent the majority of his career with Singer and Link until retiring in 1994. Mr. Ruf also briefly worked for Burroughs Corporation in Radnor, Pennsylvania, RCA in Camden, New Jersey, and General Electric in Binghamton, New York, dating back to 1958.

Mr. Ruf was fortunate to work on the Apollo Mission Simulator and the F-111 Mission Simulator. His involvement with the Apollo program coincided with his tenure in the Link Flight Simulation division of the Singer Corporation, during which time his supervisor came to him with a particular issue he had encountered. Mr. Ruf's expertise in shift registers was instrumental in solving the problem.

In a career suffused with highlights, Mr. Ruf is most proud to have worked on the Data Conversion Equipment. Moreover, he was gratified to work on the Linear Function Interpolator (LFI), which was funded by the Link Flight Simulation division of the Singer Corporation. The LFI notably used state of the art integrated circuits, which required Mr. Ruf to write the microcode to control the operation of chips and a computer program to compile the aforementioned code. Ultimately, the LFI would read and decode information as a number of variables and the location of data in system engineering memory. He also contributed extensively to the implementation of a weapons control simulation for the F-14, which had previously never been attempted and proved challenging to debug and test.

Drawn to the field of electronics since he was a child, Mr. Ruf initially thought he would become a radio and television technician. Studying at Haaren High School because it offered courses in television repair, he had to travel nearly an hour each way from his home in Ridgewood, Brooklyn. After graduating, he attempted to serve in the U.S. Air Force but failed the physical due to a heart murmur. He subsequently attended Broome Community College, earning an associate's degree in accounting, followed by postgraduate coursework at the University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering at City College of New York. Additionally, Mr. Ruf studied advanced technology at the State University of New York at Binghamton, where he received a Master of Science in 1971.
