Now retired after an esteemed professional career as a private practice general dentist, Dr. Carroll saw patients in his Portland, Oregon, between 1961 and 1995. Providing various preventative and restorative services to patients, as well as cosmetic procedures, he was a respected member of the community who earned recognition for his expertise. Involved with various community initiatives, Dr. Carroll is also a former chairperson for United Good Neighbors in Portland, a former assistant scoutmaster for his local Boy Scouts of America and a former coach for the Barlow Babe Ruth Baseball team and the Gresham Girls Little League team.
Prior to establishing his dental practice, Dr. Carroll served in active duty in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1957. He later served as an active reservist in the U.S. Navy between 1967 and 1989, during which time he held numerous positions, including as a Captain of the CDR selection board for the Bureau of Naval Personnel and commanding officer of several units at the Naval and Marine Corps Reserve Center in Portland, OR. Additionally, Dr. Carroll worked as a member of the Woodland Park Hospital dental staff from 1973 until 1979 and in academia as an assistant professor at his alma mater, the University of Oregon Dental School, in the crown and bridge department between 1961 and 1963.
In preparation for his career, Dr. Carroll acquired an undergraduate degree at Eastern Oregon State College in 1954, followed by a dental degree at the University of Oregon Dental School in 1961. Eminently qualified in his field, he is licensed to practice dentistry in the state of Oregon and is certified through the National Board of Dental Examiners of the American Dental Association. In 1985, Dr. Carroll was selected as the Oregon General Dentist of the Year, and later received recognition from the Oregon Health and Science University in the school of dentistry, when he was named as the Alumni of the Year in 2007.
Dr. Carroll is a master fellow of the International College of Dentists, where he served as the International President, vice president and councilman, as well as a master fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry. Furthermore, he has been recognized as a fellow of the International College of Dentists, the American College of Dentists and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. Other professional memberships to his credit include the Oregon Dental Association, the Association of Military Surgeons and the International Dental Fraternity, where he served in various roles and capacities. Dr. Carroll notably served as an editor for the professional publications of the Oregon Dental Association and the Oregon unit of the Academy of General Dentistry.
