Zafer Roback Celebrates a Lifetime of Dedication to Martial Arts and Real Estate

As the judo coach at Cumberland College, Mr. Roback trained several Olympians and an Olympic medalist



    KNOXVILLE, TN, July 12, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Zafer Roback has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Upon graduating from high school in 1959, Mr. Roback entered the Golden Gloves competition in Knoxville to train with boxing promoter Ace Miller. With newfound experience in physical combat, he thereafter enlisted in the U.S. Army. After completing his training at the U.S. Army Intelligence Center, he was assigned to duty in Incheon, South Korea, where he was trained in karate, judo, aikido and jujutsu. Mr. Roback is proud to have placed third out of nearly 300 participants at the New Year Judo Competition. Before departing South Korea, he earned black belts in both judo and karate.

Upon the completion of his service in the U.S. Army in 1962, Mr. Roback enrolled at the University of the Cumberlands, formerly known as Cumberland College, where he would graduate with a bachelor's degree in physical sciences in 1965. In order to sustain his scholarship, he was tasked with teaching self-defense and judo classes three days a week and judo men's team classes two hours a day. He is proud to have coached the team as they competed all over the world and won over 15 Midwest collegiate judo championships and three national championships. Moreover, Mr. Roback is honored to have been credited as "The Father of Judo at Cumberland College." He was inducted into the University of the Cumberlands Hall of Fame in 2004.

Mr. Roback has carried his passion for martial arts with him for his entire life, and is thrilled to have participated in 20 unique events throughout the 2021 Senior Olympics. An eight-time participant, he has accumulated over 50 medals. Additionally, Mr. Roback has earned distinction as an instructor and coach of judo and karate at the University of Tennessee for over a decade. In accounting for this success, he credits his unwavering attitude and perseverance.

Beginning in 2014, Mr. Roback has established himself as a realtor with the Real Estate Office in Knoxville, Tennessee. In this role, he is referred to as the "Motel Man" for his dedication to listing and selling motels. Previously, he maintained involvement as a realtor with Heath Shuler Realty. He was especially inspired to work in real estate, particularly with motels, as it has allowed him to help people find jobs. Looking toward the future, Mr. Roback aims to expand the scope of his real estate business worldwide.
