An accomplished legal expert with more than two decades of practiced expertise under his belt, Mr. Heim excels today as a partner with Bochetto & Lentz P.C., where he developed a specialty in First Amendment and Defamation claims. Recently, he was part of the impeachment defense team representing former President Donald Trump before the U.S. Senate. Mr. Heim's personal contribution was related to conceptualizing the First Amendment Defense, acting as the principal drafter of the brief on the First Amendment and working in the U.S. Senate with the team of lawyers on the oral presentation.
Throughout his career, Mr. Heim has also tried and argued cases before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, the Second, Third and Sixth U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeals and the Supreme Court of the United States regarding First Amendment, defamation and general commercial law cases, such as Nutter v. Dougherty, where he represented a mayoral candidate in an appeal to the Supreme Court regarding state preemption of municipal campaign finance laws and AFL Phila. LLC v. Krause, where he represented the former director of ticket sales for Philadelphia Soul in an intellectual property dispute with the team and celebrity owner, Jon Bon Jovi.
Due to his vast breadth of knowledge, Mr. Heim has also contributed to numerous publications, including the treatise "Wrongful Use of Civil Proceedings & Related Torts," published by American Legal Media along with co-authors G. Bochetto, J. O'Connell, R. Titner, "Defamation and Related Legal Issues in the Workplace," which was published through the Pennsylvania Bar Institute along with co-author G. Bochetto, and "Internet Defamation: Practical Tips on Identifying the Anonymous Internet Defamer," which was co-written and presented with T. Clarke and J. Mishkin. Additionally, he has been featured on a plethora of podcasts and news media such as "Prosecutors: Bucks County Doctor Provided Patients with 'Goody Bags' of Prescription Drugs, Painkillers" and "Dershow Exclusive: Trump Impeachment Lawyers David Heim & Michael van der Veen."
An expert in his field, Mr. Heim holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science and government from Rutgers University and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Rutgers Law School. Upon graduating, he was admitted to practice through the Pennsylvania and New Jersey State Bar Associations. Driven to remain aware of changes in the field, Mr. Heim also aligns himself with the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association and the Philadelphia Bar Association. Alongside his work in the field, he also volunteers with the Boy Scouts of America.
