With more than three decades of professional excellence to his credit, Dr. Mathewson has helped individuals and couples through difficult times as a transitional teacher since 2008. He has been a relationship and personal health consultant since 1988. In addition, he specialized as a consultant for relationship and personal communications and previously worked as a psychotherapist for 30 years.
While embarking on his career, Dr. Mathewson pursued an education at Eastern Washington University, graduating with a Masters in Clinical Psychology and a Masters in College Instruction. He taught at Spokane Falls Community College, worked in hospitals as a Chemical Dependency Counselor and was a Director of Emancipation Program for troubled and displaced youth.
While continuing an active private practice as a psychotherapist and growing a family with three daughters, Dr. Mathewson chose to deepen his understanding of Depth Psychology and the human condition by earning a Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute in 1999.
Notably, Dr. Clay Mathewson has completed 29 marathons, qualified for Boston three times and completed the Boston Marathon in 2017. He has also run 12 Ultra marathons and earned first place in his age in the Mt. Hood 50 miler. Today he continues to run and race when not fishing in Montana or being involved with several dance communities in Portland, Oregon. Civically engaged, he contributes to his local parent teacher association and has volunteered his time and expertise to assist students and those dealing with difficult family situations. Passionate about his work, Dr. Mathewson takes pride in all his endeavors to help others in many areas of life. His knowledge about PTSD and Burnout issues has aided several nursing communities to unknot stressors of frontline and essential care workers.
Dr. Mathewson has also found success in his written work. Authoring an original contribution to the field of depth psychology and mythology through masculine development, his book and dissertation have been printed and microfilmed in the Congressional Library of Congress since 2000. His 30 papers specializing in men's psychology were explored through current culture, mythology, dream work and from facilitating men's therapy groups for 17 years. His research has been used by notable authors to ground their work with wounded men and boys in diverse cultures.

The series chronicles the hard hitting and intimate account of three brothers growing up in the mining towns of North Idaho during the 1960s and 70s. Central to the stories are his high school experiences in the town of Wallace, Idaho, where prostitution and fighting were legal and often encouraged.
Most important in Clayton D. Mathewson's life today is his shared time with his three adult daughters, their loved ones, his close friends and his living siblings.
