GREENSBURG, PA, September 16, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present James J. Sherin with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Sherin celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Sherin is a part-time instructor of mathematics, information technology, engineering and networking at the University of Pittsburgh. A tenured educator, he formerly gained credentials teaching high school mathematics for the Rochester Area School District, and various other courses at a local community college.

A respected information technology professional, Mr. Sherin also spent nearly four decades in the field in various positions, beginning as a journeyman programmer for the U.S. Steel Company. He later became an on-site analyst for the Control Data Corporation, served as a project leader for Westinghouse Electric and, among other assignments, spent five years as a UNIX systems administrator for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center from 1997 to 2003. In this capacity, Mr. Sherin oversaw over 40 SUN and IBM UNIX platforms.

An expert in business and scientific programming, application development, various operating systems and other aspects of information technology, Mr. Sherin developed a passion for the field while teaching high school. After taking a group of his students on a tour of the Jones and Laughlin Steel Company, which was a successful data center at that time, the experience inspired him to apply to a school that teaches assembly languages. This represented the beginning of Mr. Sherin's career transition toward the field of computer science.

Locally, Mr. Sherin was devoted to the Boy Scouts of America for many years, where he served as a volunteer scoutmaster for over three decades. His commitment to the Boy Scouts of America earned him a Wood Badge and Silver Beaver Award. He was also named as an emblems counselor during his tenure. Apart from his devotion to the Boy Scouts, Mr. Sherin was also active with his church, through which he often hosted raffles to raise money for the community.

Mr. Sherin obtained a Bachelor of Science in mathematics, with a minor in history and engineering, at Geneva College in 1962. He also completed coursework toward a master's degree at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.
