Vlad the Designer at the Binnacle for Clarke Auction on Monday, May 5, 2008

Vladimir Kagan's Cubist Extension Table meets a Boston Binnacle; sale to include other masters of midcentury modern, American antiques, large lots of sterling including Tiffany and Georg Jensen, 19th C. samplers, massive foo dogs, semi-antique carpets, mirrors and chandeliers.



    /24-7PressRelease/ - LARCHMONT, NY, May 02, 2008 - On Monday May 5, Clarke will again offer 400+ lots of the unique, decorative, antique and midcentury design.

This auction features the early Vladimir Kagan Cubist Extension Dining Table, a 54" slate top Paul Evans coffee table, an 8' wall unit from Paul Evans's Library Suite, a Frank Gehry ex-museum corrugated cardboard bench, Harvey Probber, Grete Jalk lounge chairs, John Widdicomb, Florence Knoll and Knoll Design, Gilbert Rohde, Richard Schultz, and a pair of Heifetz lamps with original shades along with other midcentury modern pieces.

Antiques and exceptional start with a Boston Binnacle from Kelvin and Wilfrid, an L-I-S B9 doppleganger; a 19th C. painted chest and antique gray painted multi-drawer step back country cabinet from a famous estate, an enormous collection of sterling including Georg Jensen and a Tiffany "English King" sterling service for twelve, Royal Worcester birds, possibly Han dynasty artifacts, 19th C. American samplers, a 19th C. American candlestand, a pair of massive glazed terra cotta Foo dogs, Stickley, an antique 9' stained glass window. and many pieces of furniture

Fine art includes a pair of 18th C. oils, possibly Spanish colonial, with other old art from a local estate; a 1885 dog portrait from Thomas C Hayes, large contemporary wall art pieces including one signed Copeland '76, a 19th C. unsigned primitive landscape with horses, a large signed bronze of two jockeys astrid horses and other pieces.
