Since 1994, Mr. Cronin has worked as an attorney for the Federal Public Defender for the Southern District of Illinois. He focuses his practice exclusively on federal criminal defense; since 2001, as an Assistant Federal Public Defender. Mr. Cronin initially obtained a bachelor's degree in History from the University of Missouri in 1987, and added a bachelor's degree in Philosophy from that institution in 1990. In 1992, he earned a Juris Doctor from St. Louis University School of Law, where he earned Academic Achievement Awards in Jurisprudence and Criminal Procedure II. He was also named as the first law student member of the American Bar Association's Sentencing Guidelines Committee.

Mr. Cronin is admitted to the Missouri Bar, and to practice in the Eastern District of Missouri, Southern District of Illinois, and Eastern District of California. He is a proud member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. A former adjunct professor in Legal Studies, he is a frequent presenter at legal seminars.

Winner of two gold medals at the first United States Academic Decathlon, his most recent honor is being selected as one of the 2022 inductees for the Order of the Fleur de Lis Hall of Fame – the highest honor given by the St. Louis University School of Law. His greatest pride remains in his wife Carol Cronin and their daughters, Keeley and Keara.
