Ms. DiCarlo has worked in community relations, marketing and business development for over 35 years. Her vast experience in Public Relations prepared her to fulfill her role as a leader in development and collaborative programs in the nonprofit sector.
She began volunteering at Santa Claus, Inc. in 1986 and was hired as the organization's first Executive Director in 2012 after her years of volunteering for the organization. Managing the operations of the nonprofit and the organization's dedicated volunteers is a "labor of love" for her. Under Karen's leadership Santa Claus, Inc. has grown more than 1000% over the past nine years to provide essential needs for over 175,000 children through its extraordinary year-round programs. She has built strong partnerships between Santa Claus, Inc. and several national and international corporations including FedEx, Bank of America, San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, Amazon, Toyota, BNSF Railroad, Union Pacific Railroad, Good 360, In & Out Burger, SCE, Delivering Good, United Way of Inland Valleys, The Community Foundation of San Bernardino and Riverside Counties, Riverside County Office of Education, San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools and many others. As a result of these relationships essential funding and millions of dollars of in-kind donations are received at the Santa Claus, Inc. warehouse each year allowing the distribution of essential needs to enhance the lives of children in San Bernardino and Riverside Counties.
In light of her outstanding body of work, Ms. DiCarlo has been honored several times, including with the 12th Annual Shine a Light on Child Abuse Award through San Bernardino County. She was likewise presented with The Unforgettables Foundation "Big Hearts Award," She was awarded with the "Hero of the Heartland Award" by Stater Bros. Charities, received the Sun Newspaper's "Outstanding Citizen Award" presented to four SB County leaders at the Sun Newspaper's 100th anniversary celebration, and was proud to win the very competitive "Social Entrepreneur of the Year" Award at the California State University San Bernardino "Spirit of the Entrepreneur Awards." She was most recently named the "Woman of the Year" for the 21st California Congressional District by California Senator, Connie Leyva.
Ms. DiCarlo and her husband. Don, are the owners of Golden Bear Cottages, a four-season resort in the beautiful San Bernardino mountains in Southern California. They are the proud parents of three grown children and are blessed with ten beautiful grandchildren.
