Supporting Eating Disorder Recovery: Big Green Egg Partners with Manna Fund to "Raise the Roof"

Big Green Egg and the Manna Scholarship Fund (501c3), raise funds to provide a recovery residence for those in need of treatment and a safe living environment.

DULUTH, GA, December 02, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Research on eating disorders shows that "Every 52 minutes one person dies from an eating disorder." Many people have suffered in silence. Because of the great need for affordable treatment and safe living options, Manna Scholarship Fund is fundraising to provide scholarships for treatment as well as a recovery residence, the "Manna House".

In support of the Manna Fund, the Big Green Egg company donated a MiniMax Big Green Egg for the 2021 "Manna Fest: Memphis Blues and Cues" event. This event "Brings the Best of Memphis to the Heart of Atlanta" – including a BBQ contest with local judges, blues band, Elvis, emceed by Joe Turner, touting his mind-melding magical skills, and was hosted at Pontoon Brewing in Sandy Springs.

Local celebrity judges included: National Sales Manager of Big Green Egg, Tom Lengyel, an official Kansas City Barbecue Society Judge; Bobby Donlan, retired managing partner of New York Prime; Lee Weber, recruiter; and Pat Gartland, Executive Business coach, ex-FEMA executive, and college roommate to none other than Joe Namath.

BBQ winners this year included "Judge's Choice: Professional" – Great EATS! Catering; "Judge's Choice: Amateur" and the "People's Choice" both went to Pete Zirnheld, of Air Zirnheld. All BBQ was 100% donated by amateurs and the following professional teams: 'Cue, Slopes BBQ, Kaleidoscope, Porter Brew & Cue, & Food 4 Your Spirit.

Special guest speakers were parents of a daughter with an eating disorder. Their testimony provided insight into the highs and lows of eating disorder recovery. Adam Steigrod, an attendee of the event reflected, "I remember when they spoke at another event a year and a half ago. Their daughter was doing so well then. This really was sobering and shows just how hard it is to recover from an eating disorder."

100% of the proceeds ($7500) will be used to purchase land and a house for women over 18 who need a "safe space" to live while going through treatment. This has come from the need of adult clients who either live too far away to travel safely to Manna on a daily basis and/or do not have a safe place to live while going through treatment. If you would like to help us provide treatment scholarships and a safe living option, please donate through Go Fund Me

Manna Scholarship Fund has been an active 501c3 since 2006. Manna has provided scholarships at all levels of care for those with eating disorders and trauma-based issues. Manna has donated more than 1.5 million dollars in direct monies for residential and inpatient eating disorder treatment as well as in local scholarships for the three lower levels of care at Manna Treatment, located in Duluth, Georgia.

Manna is a cutting-edge nonprofit that creates out-of-the-box and effective treatment programs that support not only the client with eating disorders but the families as well. Since the inception of the "Family IOP", clients and families at Manna are decreasing the time spent in our Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) from 4 months to just one month. Longitudinal studies are a part of the plan for validation this new program.

Manna is also instituting a Trauma Recovery IOP, scheduled to begin January 2022. This is a structured, 12-week program that encourages taking responsibility for recovery despite not being responsible for creating the pain.

Individual women who are in our ED/Trauma Recovery programs are eligible for admission to the Manna House once established.
