Many of the roads on the list are roads with high numbers of cars and trucks traveling at highway speeds. You hear about some of them frequently in television reports of local accidents and multi-vehicle collisions.

At the top of the list of dangerous roads in Texas is Interstate 45.

Located entirely in Texas, I-45 extends 290 miles from Dallas to Galveston. It ranks as the most dangerous road in Texas and the second most dangerous in the United States. It had an average of more than 56 fatal accidents per 100 miles over eight years, according to the Accident Data Center. The section of I-45 in Harris County had 115 traffic deaths over eight years, an average of more than 14 a year.

Number 2 on the list is Interstate-35 which stretches 400 miles across Texas from Laredo through San Antonio and Austin to the border north of Fort Worth. I-35 had 290 traffic fatalities during a five-year period, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Number 3 on the dangerous roads list is U.S. Highway 83 which runs through McAllen and the Rio Grande Valley. Highway 83 had 135 fatalities during a five-year period and ranks among the most dangerous roads in the Lonestar State.
