Dr. Phyllis Qualls Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    NASHVILLE, TN, December 14, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Phyllis Qualls, Ed.D., with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Qualls celebrates many years' experience in her professional network and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. A renowned expert in her field, Dr. Qualls was named as the vice president for Institutional Advancement, Communications and Marketing at American Baptist College in 2019. Boasting years of success in the field, she is responsible for promoting the college, raising funds, working closely with alumni, and conducting community outreach, among other duties. As an expert in education, women's and minority issues, media, and state and federal government, she boasts a diverse set of skills that have greatly benefited her professional endeavors. Looking toward the future, Dr. Qualls aspires to focus a significant amount of time on fundraising and student enrollment in the years ahead.

Dr. Qualls previously served as the executive director of the Tennessee Economic Council on Women, which helped women to improve their economic status and achieve professional and personal goals. She also served as a congressional affairs specialist for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and as an assistant commissioner with the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development. She is the former deputy clerk of Metro Nashville Davidson County, and also has served as director of public relations at Tennessee State University and Tougaloo College. This consummate activist started her media career in Jackson, MS, holding multiple positions including reporter, anchor, voice-over talent, and director of programs for WJTV-12 (CBS affiliate) and WLBT-3 (NBC affiliate).

This active professional served on Nashville's city-wide committee to recognize Rep. John Lewis on the first-year anniversary of his passing. Commemorative events included an American Baptist College anniversary celebration, the naming of a street in Lewis's honor, and a mural being developed.

Sought after as a frequent speaker in her field, Dr. Qualls has also lent her expertise as a contributing writer to Nashville's Tennessee Tribune, the Jackson Advocate, and The Christian Recorder, the official newspaper of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. She is also involved, in a number of social and civic organizations. She serves as president of both the Nashville Chapter of Les Gemmes, Inc. and Societas' Docta, LTD. She is a former board member of ATHENA, International and has an active presence with the Tennessee Women's Political Caucus and the Women's Fund of the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. She has held official positions with Consortium of Doctors and the Coalition of 100 Black Women, Nashville Chapter.

Having come of age among a family of educators, Dr. Qualls earned her doctorate at Peabody College at Vanderbilt University in Higher Education Administration. She received her master's degree in English from Tennessee State University and her undergraduate degree in Theatre in her home state at the University of Southern Mississippi. Engaged as a member of several industry-related organizations throughout the course of her career, Dr. Qualls is a prominent member of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), having spoken at a number of CASE-developed conferences.

Honored with numerous awards and recognitions for her life's work, Dr. Qualls was recently featured in the Tennessee Tribune in a special recognition of Black History Month in 2021. She also received a Johnella H. Martin Award for Outstanding Leadership in the Community by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority in 2016, the ATHENA Award in 2016, a Vision Award from the Tennessee Association of Family and Consumer Science in 2016, and the Tennessee State University Woman of Legend and Merit Award in 2015. Moreover, Dr. Qualls was recognized by the Young Women's Christian Association with a Woman of Achievement Award in 2012.

In her spare time, she enjoys reading, walking, watching movies, and developing strong conversationalist behavior. Her first book will be completed and available by the end of 2022.
