In Your Health Is at Risk, patient advocate Dr. John Poothullil empowers readers with new scientific insights and complementary approaches to prevent obesity, reverse diabetes, and survive cancer.
PORTLAND, OR, December 15, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- In 2020, there were over 122 million people in the U.S. diagnosed with elevated blood glucose, 34 million diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, and 88 million diagnosed with prediabetes, yet their hope for healthy living is thwarted by medical dogma, disinformation, misinformation, and missing information. That's the premise of patient advocate and medical myth-buster Dr. John Poothullil in his upcoming book Your Health Is at Risk: How to Navigate Information Chaos to Prevent Lifestyle Diseases (January 2022).
Disinformation, Misinformation, and Missing Information, which Dr. John abbreviates DMMI, fuels growing health illiteracy and unhealthy lifestyle choices. This drives not only increases in diabetes but also cancer, cardiovascular diseases, COVID-19 and other illnesses considered lifestyle diseases, Dr. John says.
During more than 30 years practicing medicine as a pediatrician and allergist, Dr. John was driven to understand the causes of and interconnections between hunger, satiation, and weight gain. This led him to conduct a multi-decade personal study and research project reviewing medical journal articles, textbooks, and other scholarly works in biology, biochemistry, physiology, endocrinology, and cellular metabolic functions. After years researching and rethinking the biology behind high blood sugar, he developed the fatty acid burn theory that offers a more logical explanation than insulin resistance for the cause of Type 2 diabetes.
In short: when we eat carbohydrates, primarily grain-based foods, our bodies create a tremendous amount of glucose. Our cells can only store so much of this as fat. Once fat cells become full, fat gets broken back down into fatty acids, which muscles burn faster than they burn glucose. Glucose stays in the blood, raising blood sugar levels.
Dr. John also researched the linkage between diabetes and cancer. He developed additional insights into the causes of childhood and adult cancer and possible treatments involving low-carbohydrate diets to starve cancer cells by removing their main source of energy — glucose from grains.
Patients want answers to questions regarding their health. Each chapter of Your Health Is at Risk contains questions patients can ask so that both the patient and doctor are better informed about health care choices.
