Ms. Haliniak has excelled as the athletic director at Pahoa High School in Hawaii since 2015. Overseeing every aspect of the athletic program, she is largely responsible for the overall guidance and direction of the various sports programs offered by the aforementioned school. Working closely with coaches and student athletes, she also handles facility maintenance and compliance at all times. A very rewarding and motivational career, Ms. Haliniak especially enjoys interacting with students and making a difference in their lives as well as mentoring and guiding coaches.
Among her previous positions, Ms. Haliniak held athletic director appointments at Molokai High School, University Laboratory School and Laupahoehoe Charter High School in Hawaii. She was additionally active as the director of information for the Hawaii High School Athletic Association and the assistant sports information director and intramural coordinator for the University of Hawaii-Hilo. Earlier in her career, Ms. Haliniak coached sports in Honolulu at Theodore Roosevelt High School and William McKinley High School.
Inspired by her father, who was a coach for over 50 years, Mr. Haliniak was instilled with the value of hard work ethic and the importance of following the rules at a young age. Engaged with many students every school year, she is grateful to all of them because they have shaped her into who she is today. Whether through sports or academics, Ms. Haliniak is humbled by her ability to influence others in such a positive way.
Ms. Haliniak has also made an impact as the founder of a Unified Sports program at Pahoa High School. Promoting inclusion and empowering middle school students, especially those living with disabilities, the program has grown exponentially over the past four years. Originally launched in just four schools, the program is now implemented in 14 schools across 48 different teams.
Ms. Haliniak often accompanies her students when they visit with the senior citizens in the area on a monthly basis. She is also affiliated with Friends of Carvallo Field. Ms. Haliniak plans to establish a new program called Women of Hawaii in the near future, which will provide scholarships for female athletes.
Ms. Haliniak initially earned a Bachelor of Art in communications at the University of Hawaii-Hilo and a Master of Arts in education at the University of Hawaii-Manoa. She is a certified masters athletic administrator through the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrative Association in addition to a USA Volleyball officiating and coaching certification. In recognition of her achievements, Ms. Haliniak was presented with the Coach of the Year Award for boys' volleyball by the Honolulu Advertiser in 1994.
