NEWARK, DE, January 20, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Driving in winter weather can be quite difficult at times. Whether it is driving in snow or freezing rain, different winter weather conditions all pose their own risks and challenges. We here at ASE Auto pretty spend a lot of time behind the wheel so here are some of our most important winter driving tips.

First and foremost, if you have the income available, invest in a set of winter tires. While they will set you back a good amount, they'll probably cost less than your deductible if you get in an accident. The main difference between everyday tires and winter tires is the design of the treads. Winter tires have tread which are designed to give you more traction in the snow, making it easier and safer to drive on.

Next up seems like a no brainer but is a very important reminder: give yourself and the car ahead of you space and don't be afraid to slow down. In ideal driving conditions, you should give yourself three to four seconds of space with the car in front of you. In bad conditions, like snowy or icy roads, you should increase the distance to about eight to ten seconds. This gives you a greater distance to safely slow down in the event of an emergency.

Familiarize yourself with your vehicle. Most people panic in emergency situations, especially if you need to quickly slow down your car. Cars these days come equipped with antilock braking systems. If you need to stop quickly and your car has an antilock braking system, you might be familiar with the noise they make. But if you're not, you may find it concerning because the system makes an unusual noise. Don't fret, that sound actually means the braking system is working properly, just make sure you don't release the brakes when you hear the sound.

Last but not least, make sure you have an emergency car kit in your vehicle. This is a simple and must-have item for all winter drivers. Think of it as a first aid kit, but for your car in case of an emergency. These kits will make sure that you're safe while waiting for help. Think about your basic needs when putting this together. Pack it with things like an extra blanket, clothes, non-perishable foods, hand warmers, a shovel, an extra ice scrapper. There are many things that would be great to have in your emergency kit, but these are just some of the basics. Adding a first aid kit isn't a bad idea, either!

These simple tips will help you get through the winter weather while hopefully avoiding any potential hazards. We here at ASE Auto wish the best for you and your vehicle, and don't forget to use your best judgment on the road!
