Zoltan Mari, MD, FAAN, has been Inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry

Dr. Mari hopes to make a difference in his career by training new generations of specialists

LAS VEGAS, NV, January 21, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Zoltan Mari, MD, FAAN, has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

From a young age, Dr. Mari has been interested in biology. Hailing from a family of multiple generations of dentists, Dr. Mari notes that one of his uncles was a founding dean of a dentistry school in his hometown in Hungary. As such, his family expected him to follow the family tradition. Desiring to pave his own path, Dr. Mari wanted to pursue a career in medicine instead. He went on to receive a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Szeged in Hungary in 1993. In the same year, he started a PhD in Neuroscience at the same University, which was the inaugural first such class in Szeged, Hungary. He began his career as a post-doctoral research fellow at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center in 1995. Dr. Mari completed his internship in medicine at the Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center in 1998, where he earned the "Intern of the Year" distinction, followed by residency in neurology at Downstate, where he was elected Chief Resident in his final year of training. In the same year (2001) he was elected as a "house staff" member of the ETA (New York) Chapter of the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, being the only foreign medical graduate to receive this distinction.
Dr. Mari then was admitted to a highly competitive clinical fellowship training program in movement disorders, followed by another fellowship in clinical neurophysiology, both at the National Institutes of Health, from 2001 to 2005 and then 2005 to 2006, respectively. After completion of his fellowships he became full-time tenure-track faculty at the rank of Assistant Professor of neurology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he worked from 2006 to 2017, promoted to Associate Professor in 2013. While serving at Johns Hopkins University, he also worked as director of the National Parkinson Foundation Center of Excellence between 2010 and 2017, co-founded the movement disorder clinical fellowship program, the DBS/Advanced Therapies in Movement Disorders program, and served as the interim director and then director of the Johns Hopkins Parkinson's & Movement Disorders Center.

Dr. Mari was recruited by Cleveland Clinic from his former position and currently holds the title of Ruvo Family (Endowed) Chair in Parkinson's and Movement Disorders at the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health in Las Vegas, where he has been since 2017. In his current role, Dr. Mari is responsible for patient care, education, various administration roles and academic duties, including conducting externally funded original research.

Dr. Mari also maintains professional affiliation with the Movement Disorder Society, the Parkinson Study Group, the International Association of Parkinsonism & Related Disorders, and the American Academy of Neurology. He serves as associate editor for the Parkinsonism & Related Disorders Journal, and he was named among Top Doctors by Castle Connolly in 2021 and 2022 among many other awards. He has attributed his professional success to the support of his family, who set high standards of achievement from a formative age, and more recently his wife, Lynda Mari, who has been not only the love of his life, but also a major inspiration to increase his impact in care, research, and outreach. As a student, Dr. Mari was able to excel and work diligently, which laid the foundation for his later success as junior and mid-career academic neurologist. Once he met Lynda, Dr. Mari found ultimate happiness and a healthy work-life balance. Dr. Mari is a father of 4 children.
