Foster Angel Tree Brightens Christmas for Kids

The tradition of the angel tree involves setting out a tree festooned with paper angels. Every paper angel shows the age and gender of a child, and those who truly understand the Christmas spirit will pluck off an angel and buy a gift for that child, said Jennifer Knittel, Salon & Spa Galleria Marketing Manager.

"We did things a little differently at Salon & Spa Galleria," says Knittel. "We collected unwrapped gifts for a variety of ages because we wanted to include some of the older foster kids who often get forgotten."

Many professionals at Salon & Spa Galleria and some customers and members of the public participated in buying new unwrapped presents for children of various ages, "We've had such a good year that we wanted to give back and that meant doing something special for the children in need in our community," Knittel said.

A random drawing was held to award one of Salon & Spa Galleria's tenants with a week's free rent for participating in the Foster Angel Tree promotion. Dawn Martinez of the Rufe Snow location, suite 105, was the lucky winner. The joy she felt about winning the drawing was second only to the happiness of being able to help others at Christmas time, Martinez said.

Tenants participated in the Foster Angel Tree promotion despite it being one of the busiest times of the year for them, Knittel said. "I'm so proud of the way Salon & Spa Galleria's tenants interacted with the community with this idea," said Salon Space Leasing Agent Madison Dulany.

"There are a lot of things that make it feel like Christmas. "But this particular tradition – to set up a Foster Care Angel Tree – and to encourage our salon pros, our customers, and the public at large to bring presents to the tree for foster kids who might otherwise have been overlooked – it just lifts one's heart," Delany enthused.
