HBS Alumni Club of Charlotte's MDP Program Donates $50K to Charlotte Area Non-Profits

$50,000 given to 14 Charlotte area Non-Profits

"Making a difference in our community is part of our mission statement and a creed of Harvard. Thanks to the MDP program we have made nearly one million differences"-HBS Club President Juergen Seybold

CHARLOTTE, NC, February 03, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Harvard Business School (HBS) Alumni Club of Charlotte was back in the classroom last fall with a hybrid - in-person and virtual - Management Development Program (MDP). On January 18th, 21 students graduated from the program, with $50,000 given to 14 Charlotte area non-profits.

One of only two programs like it in the US, the MDP is a "mini MBA" course taught by Harvard Business School alumni volunteers to mid-level executives and entrepreneurs. The program offers the chance to study business strategy, ethics, finance, and marketing, one night a week for 13 weeks, with a roster of some of the most prominent CEOs, Presidents, and Managing Partners in the Charlotte area. The Class of 2021 marks the 19th consecutive year that the Charlotte HBS Alumni Club's MDP has been offered.

Total donations from the MDP reached $975,000 and include the sponsorship of a local non-profit leader to attend Harvard Business School's Strategic Perspectives in Non-Profit Management (SPNM) program each year. Derived from tuition monies, these dollars support local area non-profits, including Charlotte Rescue Mission, A Child's Place, Catherine's House, Crisis Assistance Ministry, and Roof Above.

"Making a difference in our community is part of our mission statement, and a creed of Harvard. Thanks to the MDP program we have made nearly one million differences," said HBS Club President Juergen Seybold, President of Lutze, Corp. More than 175 regional companies have sent executives to MDP to learn using Harvard's famous case study method. Some of those companies are Caterpillar, BNI, National Gypsum, and Wells Fargo.

Shifting to a virtual format in 2020 and the hybrid format in 2021 meant that students outside of Charlotte could participate. Four of the 21 MDP students in this class joined from Argentina, Ireland, Italy, and Washington state. "The business and cultural perspectives that they bring enrich the case discussions," commented Steve Hindman, MDP Chairperson. "Regardless of the hour of night in their location, these students always came to class with energy and enthusiasm."
