Supporting Residents Amidst the Pandemic

$315,000 in COVID-19-Related Funding Distributed by CAHEC Foundation

RALEIGH, NC, February 04, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The current COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted many communities throughout CAHEC's footprint. The CAHEC Foundation, a non-profit affiliate of CAHEC, successfully disbursed $315,000 to support low-income residents in the Southeast and mid-Atlantic who were struggling financially during this trying time. This funding was allocated towards food assistance, supporting centers facilitating virtual learning, increasing resources for mental health services, and aiding organizations that help women in the workforce.

As schools pivoted to a remote learning environment and the need for food assistance continued to climb, many low-income families felt an even greater financial burden. The CAHEC Foundation stepped in and directed $275,000 of funding towards aiding organizations that assist students with remote learning, such as the YMCA and the Boys & Girls Club of Cabarrus County, and sponsoring food box distribution events that provided more than 60,000 meals to those in need.

As the pandemic continued, research showed that many people were facing other challenges, including mental health issues and employment struggles. Because of this, the CAHEC Foundation deployed the second round of funding throughout their footprint to help fund support services for mental illness offered by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and Foundation of Hope, and to Dress for Success of the Triangle to aid women re-entering the workforce being forced to step away during the pandemic.

The CAHEC Foundation is proud to have aided thousands of low-income residents throughout the Southeast and mid-Atlantic through this funding and will continue to support low-income residents as needed. Dana Boole, President & CEO of CAHEC, stated, "We recognize the impact it has had on family and elderly households and we're thankful we had the resources to make a positive difference."
