FORT MYERS, FL, February 04, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sheriff Carmine D. Marceno Jr. has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Elected as the sheriff of Lee County in 2020, Sheriff Marceno originally joined the office in 2013 as an executive officer to Sheriff Mike Scott. Previously, he garnered several years of experience in various positions with the Collier County Sheriff's Office in Naples, Florida. Before that, Sheriff Marceno enjoyed a distinguished tenure in law enforcement in Suffolk County, New York.

Focusing on providing all residents and visitors of Lee County with efficient and orderly service, Sheriff Marceno also strives to bring people together, bridging communication gaps between individuals to create harmony. In the field, he is responsible for responding to large crime scenes, providing statements for press conferences, attending routine meetings, and participating in community events. Sheriff Marceno is also accountable for the oversight of approximately 1,700 law enforcement employees, as well as the annual budget.

In recent years, Sheriff Marceno implemented the Real Time Intelligence Center (RTIC) at the Lee County Sheriff's Office. This center is a successful state-of-the-art operations room that is helping to solve many crimes throughout the area. This forward-thinking and advanced center was established at no cost to the Lee County tax payer. It was financed by forfeiture funds from previous criminal cases, to include large narcotics-related investigations. Battling the opioid epidemic in Lee County is among his major initiatives.
Sheriff Marceno has dedicated resources and manpower to expand his Narcotics Unit, which has proven successful as the team has received the 2021 Region V Unit of the Year Award from the Florida Narcotic Officers' Association. Sheriff Marceno also emphasizes the importance of keeping Lee County schools, students, and staff safe, thus his creation of his Safe Kids-Safe Schools initiative. Sheriff Marceno made it his mission to ensure the safety of students from the moment they leave their homes in the morning to when they return. Sheriff Marceno's School Resource Deputy program was recognized in 2020 as the Agency of the Year by the Florida Association of School Resource Officers. Sheriff Marceno also created the Animal Cruelty Task Force after his team of detectives rescued an abused dog and successfully arrested the suspect. This dog became nationally known as Deputy Chance and was recognized during the 2021 American Humane Hero Dog Awards. Deputy Chance continues to serve as an ambassador of good will for the citizens of Lee County. Sheriff Marceno notes that his county currently has the second lowest crime rate among all 67 counties throughout the state of Florida and is projected to rank number one for 2021. All of these initiatives contribute to the decrease in Lee County's crime rate.

Sheriff Marceno is deeply invested in his community, he has served as a board member for Pick up the Ball Inc. and the Foundation for Lee County Public Schools. He has also been active on the advisory board for Pace Center for Girls of Lee County and was on the board of directors for the Lee County Horizon Council.

While coming of age, Sheriff Marceno was fortunate to be surrounded by numerous positive influences. During his childhood, he found mentorship through a local police officer, who often frequented the community and spent time with him and other kids in the neighborhood. He was also inspired by his father, who hailed from a military and sports background. Sheriff Marceno is a graduate of Rocky Point High School on Long Island, New York. He later completed coursework at Florida Gulf Coast University and the University of Virginia. In 2017, Sheriff Marceno graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy Session 267, which is an invitation-only 10-week program that focuses on specialized training and physical tasks.

To support his professional endeavors, Sheriff Marceno is a member of the Florida Sheriffs Association. He is among 67 sheriffs and thousands of business leaders and citizens to actively engage as a member of the nonprofit organization, which strives to improve law enforcement through various educational and charitable efforts. Sheriff Marceno was recently bestowed with the Liberty Bell Award from the Lee County Bar Association in 2021. This prestigious award was presented to Sheriff Marceno for his outstanding community service and promotion of the rule of law. Among his many other recognitions, he received the Second Annual Hanley Foundation Prevention Superhero Award from Lee County Coalition for a Drug-Free Southwest Florida in 2020, was named as an Outstanding Law Enforcement Executive by the Southwest Florida Police Chiefs Association in 2019, and received a Public Service Award from the Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce in 2012.
