Alongside her responsibilities as an educator and administrator, Dr. Ackerman previously found success as the chairperson of the American Academy of Pediatrics' critical care section. From 2016 until 2018, she was appointed as the board chairperson of Child Health Investment Partnership of the Roanoke Valley. Dr. Ackerman also currently serves as an editorial board member of Pediatrics, which is a peer-reviewed medical journal published by the American Academy of Pediatrics.
